The main thing about the motion tracker in this game that I don't like is that the enemies don't show up as a solid red dot. They are a faded red and too many enemies clumped together hides their numbers. In Later games enemies are a solid red dot and their dots don't blend together into one mass. It is easier to determine the true number of enemies around the corner.
I find the vague clumped together dots an integral part of the game. Especially in levels with the flood spores everywhere, it all adds to the element of surprise. You don't know if there's a flood combat form hidden somewhere in there, so you've got to look.
I'd even say that the motion tracker in itself is already a tradeoff of immersion in exchange for gameplay, if I had it my way, Halo would come without one. You should ideally be playing without it, noises being all that alerts you that there is an enemy in the vicinity, the only question being "where". Creeping across corners and maintaining cover, just in case there are enemies abound, would be an added gameplay asset, instead of being spoonfed with a motion tracker.
As to the flood's long range melee, what's "long range" about it is that if you see one about to melee you, there is no way to dodge it, unlike with an elite or hunter. I do wish that the flood could be damaged through melee, as it would be an addition to the combat system, instead of it being one-dimensional, only being able to shoot them etc. I understand that it's meant for them to be "difficult", but engaging at close quarters combat with melee is already a difficult option, and should be available to you, instead you are forced to retreat and deal with them at far range, which is considerably a cakewalk (even on legendary). Sword elites are beatable with melee unlike the flood, which is kind of ridiculous, don't you think?!

And about speakers and listening to the flood around the corner... Well excuse me for not having a $3,000 7 point surround sound stereo system turned to maximum volume on a 70inch LED TV in ultra high definition.
I play on a 17 inch flat screen standard definition TV, with no supplementary speakers so I only hear the game coming from two small ports on my TV. And I don't turn the volume too high because I have a small house with paper thin walls and I don't want to disturb anybody.
Those are my major complaints.
Any pair of cheap earphones, as long as it results in two separate pairs stereo sound, is all that's needed. Two signals from opposite ends will be enough to locate an object on a linear path (in this case, on a horizontal line bisecting your ears). The only lack of depth would be on front and back, but as we are dealing with a visual shooter, if you can't see it, then it's probably behind you. Easy enough.
On how you're "supposed" to get lost on 343. Well...that kinda sucks, now that i've memorized it and can't get lost even if I wanted to...
There goes the replay value eh <_<
