Nakki, I vote "no" to that idea.

Wait, I don't even have to.

Thank you Achronos! Thank you thank you thank you! I don't plan on leaving bnet in the forseeable future, but if this were to happen, I would.

And, like Excalibur, I vote no to that idea.

Am I the only person who finds image sigs distracting? Besides the possibilities for abuse and the extra time for modem users, image sigs are annoying. I have never went to a forum to see the pretty signatures. I always go there because of the content. Other than distracting me and making the page look cluttered and unorganizedd, what purpose does a picture signature serve? I would say none.

Pretty much any problem becomes a big problem when you multiply it by one million.

I can think of one "problem" that I might be interested in attempting.

Swiss bank account in my name and every Bungie.Net member puts in a dollar. We keep repeating the test until it becomes a big problem.

I'll buy that for a dollar!

I like image sigs, but I don't want them here. There are too many people that would abuse them.

Probably. There are around 1,000,000 members on Bungie.net, correct? What are the chances that 50 people will chip in a dollar each? Pretty good I think.

I voted no. Theres too much potential for abuse of that sort of thing, especially with 1,000,000+ users. I wouldn't want to put the mods through that. They've got enough on their hands already.

Anyway, Achronos said no, so I guess the point is moot.

Bungie isn't exactly liked by all. People come here souly to annoy everyone else. And if posting rude/explicit images is an option, they'll abuse it like no tomorry.

Don't use the: but "it will take so long to load" excuse. It doesn't take that long on other sites.

Pretty much any problem becomes a big problem when you multiply it by one million.

-- Steve's thinking it's the obnoxious content that's the primary obstacle, but a million 50kb graphics would suck up a lot of server space and bandwidth too.

*Sigh*...pwned. Even the vote screams "NO!". I guess I'll just have to hide in a bunker or something. =D

Why not test it for one week?

You can never absolutely know the outcome of something until it is feild tested. No matter how many simulations, no matter how sure you are, you can never know until its truely tested.

So why not give it a week? Im sure we can all stand a week of the occasional bad image, IF there even is any. We do not and cannot KNOW that people here will post bad things in their sigs. It may happen at first just so people can be like "Im cool look at me!" but it will die down, All the other bad things to come through here have died down.

I just dont think blaming it on the members mental and maturity capacities is right...

Sure, why not? I could log out of B.net for a week, then you tell me afterwards how it went.

EDIT: PLEASE, no image signatures! I, for one, don't want to come to Bungie to see pictures of nekkid people.

I love picture of nekkid people but this is not the place for them.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Yes I do.

I know for certain that in the first 100 images linked/upload for a signature, someone will link a giant 1600x1200 resolution photo of some kind of inappropriate image, if not that individual's own ass.

I know this because I have been using the Internet since before Netscape existed, and anybody telling you that the result will be anything different is being naive.

So no, you will never be allowed to have image signatures.

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

i am sure you could impose a resolution image you know, 300 X 200 max or something.
i would support the idea but you would need to impose strict guidlines.

Maybe only have it avaliable to members who have been here over 6 months. You could also have rules like innapropirate images are grounds for perma bans and so forth.

It could work but judging from the types of people i see post here I wouldnt take it lightly.

  • 11.22.2005 3:32 PM PDT

I'm not that active, but never dead.

Can we have the option to just not even view people sigs?

I really don't care what new ASCCII art someone copied a pasted, and I hate those "copy and paste" sigs.

Can we have the option to not see other people's sigs?

It would also speed up the site for people with slow connections, or overseas.

Good, have a look round on the 'net, sigpics get waaaay out of hand, it's not uncommon to see people with 6 or 7 200x300 or larger images, all of them animated gifs, it would look awful. Not to mention that some imbecile would try and slip some -blam!- in.
