Seeing as I am recovering from MASSIVE food poisoning and absolutely bored out of my mind, I did a simple analysis this morning. I was on the Halo wiki and stumbled to the page with all the halo reach ranks. About half way between colonel grade 1 and colonel grade 2, you will have acquired 1 million cR. Being a fairly active player (but not one of those addicts who maxes out their cR daily), this takes around 3 months. Thus, I came up with an estimate that you earn 1 million cR in 3 months or 333,333 credits per month.

Now, the majority of the ranks follow a nice linear pattern until you get into the Hero/Legend region, and after this.....well its insane. While it would only take a year to reach the rank of Hero at the rate above, it would take another 4 years to reach the rank of inheritor!!!!! YES that is 5 total years of your life!!!!!

Now...lets translate this into game time. Using my stats (1,111,659 cR earned / 951 games), a player who is somewhat challenge-oriented will earn 1168 cR/game (lets round up to 1200cR/game for the rest of the discussion).

Now, Bungie does not make this easy (no stat for games/hr directly), but they do provide 2 important statistics which are kills/game and kills/hours played. If you take (kill/hr) / (kill/game), you end up with games/hr. My breakdown is:

Firefight: (311.86/53.51) = 5.83 games/hr (good mix of score attack + regular firefight)
Competitive: (69.45/10.88) = 6.38 games/hr

My current breakdown by game type is 405 firefight games and 367 competitive games. Thus my average games/hr is (5.83*405 + 6.38*367)/(405 + 367) = 6.1.

This is nice and close to 6, which means each game takes about 10 mins. Now if we take (1200 cR/game ) / (10 min/game) we get 120 cR/minute played.

This means if you are going to reach the rank of inheritor, you will likely have to play for approximately 166,666 minutes = about 2778 hours = 115 days of game time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Furthermore, if you assume a 1 minute waiting time before each game to get everyone all organized and stuff, thats 10% the game time played. Meaning by the time you would reach the rank inheritor, you will have spent an extra 11.5 days just staring at your TV waiting in the pre-game lobby !!!!!!!!!

So.....is it worth it to you?

In the 120 Creds per min thing, aren't you kinda totally disregarding challenges??

Message me if you want, I will try to get back as soon as possible.

See you on the forums and in the games.

Nice logic, kind of off topic for this forum, now use that brain to find out who's trying to poison your food.
