Subject: Sgt. Johnson isn't dead?

We all saw Sgt. Johnson get killed by 343 Guilty Spark at the end of Halo 3, but then again we saw him get killed by the Flood in the level "343 Guilty Spark" (How ironic), and then again when Halo exploded.
Something tells me he'll be back in Halo 4 :)

Sorry, on "343 Guilty Spark" you were lead to believe that he was dead, not actually shown the body. The Halo CE Legendary ending was non-canon.

When 343 kills Johnson you watch him die. He's not coming back from that.

I think there will be a cutscene, and Johnson is going to get asked "How the hell did you survive that?"

"Classified."

"Hmph! Classified my ass!"

I honestly hope that will be real.
He survived a Halo ring's destruction, what makes you think he'll die from a whimsy laser beam and a larger floating object exploding?

Oh, he isn't dead, Mendecant Bias saved him.

What? Turning into a Proto-Gravemind then having your head caved in by MC's fist?

Edit: Sadly, I hope they don't bring him back. That cutscene would be ruined, I cried during it. It was probably the most depressing cutscene of the whole game.

You dont see him die.... you leave him as the control room blows up :) althought i dout he managed to surf to earth on a shattered peice of the ring.

so yer... hes dead

  • 12.18.2010 12:26 PM PDT

It's obvious what happened.

Johnson is a Spartan I, and due to a genetic modification has a resistance to the Flood. After his death once the Master Chief had left, a Flood form somehow (read: magic) found its way into the control room and tried to infect him. It reanimated the body but couldn't assimilate him into one of the Flood. Johnson wakes up, kills the Flood form and is now on a Halo ring about to explode.

Now that we've explained how he came back to life in a plausible manner, its time to detail his escape from Halo. You see, Mendicant Bias with the arrival of the keyship on the Ark has pieced himself back together, and is atoning for his sins. He somehow (once again, read: magic) holds up the control room as it's collapsing and talks to Johnson. Short, B-rate dialogue takes place.

Then Mendicant Bias teleports John away from the Ark to Sanghelios (the journey for some reason taking a few months) where Johnson and Mendicant rescue the Master Chief from the Sangheili, who have waged war against humanity again for shaky reasons.

And that's how Johnson remains alive.

You also see his body slidedown into the bottom of the room.

Even if he survived getting his chest melted off, he would have experienced a lethal fall.

I'm pretty sure that's heresy, and that it conflicts with the "Code of Manliness" - page 792, section E subsection D paragraph 3.2. I suggest you relay that statement.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

In Halo 1, Johnson was a "canon-fodder character" like any other marine. He wasn't a real character, just another random marine that players became attached to, and so Bungie made him a real character for the later games.

Since in Halo 2 and Halo 3 they actually made him a main character, they also made it so he couldn't die. Notice how all main characters (Arbiter, Johnson, Miranda) cannot die in Halo 3.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

The ending cutscene in Halo CE where the PoA explodes was a joke made by Bungie obviously. That scene was not canon.

Facts:
-343 Guilty Spark: He has Boren's Syndrome. Flood can't infect him.
-End of CE: Non-canon.
-Halo 3: Halo gets blown up when he's on it, and he is already dying.

Analysis/Conclusion:
He's dead.

In Halo 1, Johnson was a "canon-fodder character" like any other marine.
I assume you mean 'cannon-fodder' but canon-fodder works too.

Wrong. "Boren's Syndrome" was a condition ONI made up to hide the identities of the ORION Project's candidates. His immunity to the Flood is because of his augmentations.

Johnson shares the fate of both Keyes because Halo 3 was then end of the trilogy to add a dramatic ending. They wanted to close ties with the remaining of the series characters like Master Chief not making it back to Earth.

Halo 4 is highly likely given the nature of Micro$oft, but it'll be from 343, I'd bet my music on it.

I don't think there will be a Halo 4 period. What I see with Master Chiefs ending in 3 is a movie with little fight scenes, not a game. However I do see 343 doing more stuff about blue team, maybe red team, Harvast, maybe more Reach, and maybe even post Halo games where it is marines and elites vs the Covenant.
