Subject: Who had the most sad death?

Yes, I'm a girl, stop asking.

Republic Commando fans look here.

"This is the way the world ends, not with a bang or whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door."

If we're allowed to include books I'd say Kurt in GoO. I had to keep myself from crying because I finished the book in the middle of class. He makes the ultimate sacrifice, staying behind to protect the others having just been reunited with Blue Team after them thinking he was dead. The deaths of Holly and Will (the latter being a character in the series since FoR) just adds to the shock, and then the Spartans and company actually have the time to give them a burial and a proper send off, which they rarely get to.

If it's just games, then well... I don't know, either Captain Keyes or Jorge.

  • 12.18.2010 11:31 PM PDT

I didn't really feel anything for anyone in Noble Team (with the possible exception of Jorge because he was fleshed out a little better) because we knew nothing about them.

We'd be following Johnson, on the other hand, through three games and the books too. His death may not have been executed better than Noble Team's, but it was far more impacting as we knew who Johnson was BEFORE he died.

Who was Kat? A Spartan who was good with tech. And that's pretty much ALL we know.

- Born on Monastir, New Harmony in 2530.
- Conscripted into Beta Company.
- S-III training for about 6/7 years.
- Pulled out of Operation: TORPEDO by Kurt and Mendez.
- Assigned to Noble Team some time after.
- She and Carter are the only survivors of the original Noble Team.
- She shares a close bond with Carter as a result of this.
- Second in-command of Noble.
- Fiercely loyal.
- Put together an op in which she lost Thom and her right arm.
- Feels guilt because of Thom's death.
- Described as an "inspired tactician", a brilliant hacker and cryptanalyst.
- Habit of occasionally investigating classified Intel more than her superiors would like her to.
- Lack of situational awareness.
- Hates B312 because of her guilt at first, starts to like him towards the end before she dies.

What more could you possibly need to know, Connor?

Those are just crappy "facts" fed to us through updates, and most are never once alluded to in the game. Do we ever see evidence of her feeling guilty or hating Noble Six?

No.

We see plenty of evidence of her hating Noble Six. She's pretty damn cold towards him throughout the game up until New Alexandria.

Most of what I've put is alluded to in the game...

[As of October 2012]
2013 ADFA Officer Cadet of the RAAF (Aerospace Engineer Electronics Officer).

Kat's death really wasn't that emotional to me, if anything it was rather unsatisfying, the sluggish reactions by the rest of Noble team annoyed me a bit as well.

  • 12.19.2010 3:37 AM PDT

It's still crappy background information 99% of the players will never read, it has virtually no impact on the game, and doesn't change the fact that the characters are still rubbish with no real back-story other than random lines probably made up in a few minutes on Bungie's idea board.

Whilst true, albeit exaggerated, it didn't spoil her death scene for me.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Another death that for me was really sad, even though it's from the novels, was Major Faison, the CO of the ODST's aboard the Midsummer Night in The Cole Protocole.

Damn, I loved the description of ODST's in that book and Faison was by far my favorite ODST (Apart from Buck). I hated when he got shot and was left behind only to be killed by Thel's squad... Atleast Markov became the CO of the ODST's, I liked him too.

Got Milk?

Kat - the most tragic all of the deaths for me, if only for the fact that she didn't go down fighting.

It was like they just stood there and wondered if they should go help 6.

@ Wolverfrog: I always had a liking of Noble Team, like I knew them better and longer than Johnson, due to the waiting and constant information about them, and the ViDocs always gave me a bit more of a view on their personality. Sure, they're not a long loved charcter like Johnson, but thats just how I feel. And if it wasn't for Noble, then MC, Cortana, Keyes, Johnson, etc. would all be dead.

to hell with kat, she was stupid! johnson by a mile, i mean dying in the chiefs arms with the whole 'send me out...with a bang...' dialog, how is that not the most voted for? kat just got shot, there was no drama, nothing, just shot...dead...!?

Wow... just wow.

Johnson was killed by a floating lightbulb, not to mention his dialogue was pretty darn cheesy.

Kat's death had a lot of drama to it. New Alexandria is falling around Nble Team, they're sprinting towards a fallout bunker whilst there's hair-raising music playing in the background building up tension.

Then it's all over in seconds, Kat has fallen and Noble Team drag her body into the bunker with the closing shot showing her foot twitch before she lies still. The last we see of her is her body in Carter's arms as they wait for the Falcon to pick them up, again with pretty divine music playing.

I voted Johnson, but this is true. It really brought out the suddeness of death.

he means we never got to "know" Kat like Johnson. She was their for half a game, we felt no attachment to her at all, but in Johnson's case we went on this great galactic adventure and he was there every step of the way in all three games.

so we didn't know her personally is what he's saying.

From the moment I began the campaign, I felt something different about Kat. One of the many reasons being that she was the first female Spartan introduced to the Halo game series, and the fact that it seemed like she had been doing this for a very long time.

You know it does nothing. It did nothing in Halo 3-1, you just did not notice it. Go on Halo 3 and rapid fire at a wall and the bullets get more random. Don't try to deny it. I've shot real guns, I should know.

Your grammar.

My favorite group.

Captain Keyes, knowing how he had to go through all the freaky mutations of the Flood, and the MC having to punch is face in was pretty...unexpected.

Kat's was surprising, Johnson's was emotional, Jorge's and Carter's were sacrificial, Noble 6's was heroic, Emile's was fighting until your last breath...and Keyes' was all of the above.

During the game things were a little rushed because of the urgency of getting the codes and getting off the T&R, but I was sad seeing Keyes go. Getting repurposed by the flood... There are worse fates than death knowing that you're becoming the enemy.

how do you get Kats death being sad? i was happy because she was the most annoying character in the game and her death was the worst death by far just a shot to the back of the head, by a needle rifle which wouldnt kill a spartan. How do you get drama from that? and Jorge had a very sad death because he blew himself up for no reason and Jorge is very likeable. johnsons death was sad because he was with you for so long and that is a vey tough light bulb by the way.

thats because shes just a b.itch period her accent was the second worst in the game. Juns being the worst up to the point that you couldnt understand him at all.

Johnson's death was so cliche and hollywoodized (then again, so is Johnson himself) that my response was just "good riddance".

I'd have to say Captain Keyes was the saddest.
