It has been stated the the ammo for the sniper in halo is 14.5mm, however in Halo 3: ODST the ammo seen in the supply caches says 14.4mm. Is there any reason to this or just an accident when making the ammo box?

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But sooner or later, the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.

My thought is, it's a typo.

Bizarrely, in TFOR (when Linda is selecting a Sniper Rifle before the mission against the Insurrectionists), she 'ups' the calibre to .45 - 14.5mm is .57 calibre. More typos? TFOR was rushed, there are lots of similar errors where Nylund mixed inches with mm.

There's a lot, such as calling the Warthog gun a 50mm, which would make it larger than a Gauss Turret.
In one of the books, it descends into the ludicrous. Linda removes the 'deadly armour piercing tips [of the sniper rounds] and replaces them with narq-dart tips'.

It even states somewhere in that section that the rounds are 114mm long, 4 and a half inches. And yet a 14.5mm thick, 114mm long spear travelling at somewhere between 1000 and 2000m/s is made non-lethal by placing a transquiliser dart on its tip.

What was the 14.5 ammo? Reach? That explains it.

to put this is for everbody to understand the 14.5mm number is the length of the bullet it self nut the casing. The casing is the gold part. The bullet is the bronze color part. In real life the halo sniper rifle fires a 50 cal

No, 14.5mm is the width of the bullet itself, it is a .57cal bullet.

Exactly. A 14.5mm bullet is 1.45 centimetres, or a little more than half an inch.
(2.25 [?] cm in an inch? For memory)
