Favorite episode of the Halo Legends and why, and what stuff you disliked in the series.

I have to say my favorite episode is the Package, it felt the most like Halo to me, it really captured the epic feel of the series and really captured the spirit of the games. Only problem with it was Halsey's appearance, but eh, that's creative license and doesn't really matter.

The Duel is another of my favorites, I loved the insight into the Covenant culture and the sort of new background information on the position of Arbiter and how it came to be the way it was regarded in Halo 2. The art style was really cool and interesting too.

Origins Part I was great, loved the stuff about the Forerunners and their fight with the Flood. Origins Part II was...meh. I didn't really like it, it seemed too "war is bad let's all coexist and smoke pot" hippy sort of stuff, but that's just me. And the whole "Cortana's going rampant" thing I thought was just plain stupid, imo she already went through it while under control of the Gravemind, she seemed pretty rampant in that level, so yeah, I did not really like Origins Part II at all.

The Homecoming was alright, I mean the story was good and all, but quite a bit of it did not sit well at all with the canon, like the way Halsey's attitude was portrayed, and Ralph being a marine. I just didn't like it, the bad outwayed the good in this one for me.

The Prototype was all right, but it was my least favorite. The action was cool, but I just didn't like this one.

The Babysitter was awesome and definitely amongst my favorites for the animes. I loved how we got to see the ODSTs in action and the sort of missions they got.

And of course Odd One Out was just awesome, I loved how it made fun of Dragon Ball Z and other similar anime stuff. As well as just typical story conventions. It was just epic. "Bring out...Pluton!"

All in all, Halo Legends was awesome, and it would be cool if more this sort of stuff came out.

The Best

Prototype - awesome action, nothing more. Simple: giant suit of armor blows up Covenant, then itself. Accomplished what it set out to do.

The Duel - Cool art style, interesting story about the early Covenant. Although the "comic relief" grunt was rediculous, and should have been cut.

Babysitter - This one wasn't really anything special, but it was cool to see the interaction between ODSTs and a Spartan. Even though Dutch looked ridiculous, and nothing like in the game. Oh, and it introduced us to our first real taste of the Precursors.

The Package - An alright story, neat action, nothing too amazing. I didn't lik the introdction and immediate killing of two more throwaway Spartans, but whatever, I can live with that, I guess.

The Worst

Origins - This one came off feeling really cheap to me; It was nice to (sort of) see the Forerunners, but was it really necessary to rip most of the two episodes' imagery directly from Bungie's unused concept art? Come up with your own ideas, guys. And Cortana going crazy is just a lame excuse for the fact that half of the scenes in Origins 2 make absolutely no sense, and are nothing like any events that actually happened. This isn't artistic interpretation anymore, it's making -blam!- up and then coming up with a quick hand-wave to justify it's existence. By now you should be getting the impression that I really don't like Origins 2.

Homecoming - Interesting concept, execution falls flat. Lame characters, and some very strange decisions. Why number Ralph 303, for instance? It makes no sense to confuse people more than they already are regarding the Spartan II program. Why make Master Chief show up in the end? Just for the sake of making it hard to pin down a date? Oh, and the artist in charge of drawing this can't draw Mjolnir armor. Both Daisy and John looked awful in their armor.

Odd One Out - I get that it's meant to be a parody of Japanese animation tropes, or something. It just wasn't funny. I would've preferred another meaningful, canon based story instead. How about some Spartan III action?

That just about sums up my feelings. Overall, I'd say it's not a bad package, but it feels half-finished, like the fact-checkers and editors needed to take a final pass at it, but 343 didn't have time, and just shipped it anyway. A better written and animated, and more original set of stories would make an excellent follow up.

I agree almost completely with all you said. Great start of something that could be quite awesome, 343 definitely needs to be more involved with making sure everything is accurate and that creative license doesn't go too far. If there were more I would certainly watch them.

I completely agree with you about Origins II, Cortana would not be that uninformed about events while being stuck in High Charity, and she would most certainly not be going rampant yet, and she still has a couple more years before reaching the time when AIs start to think themselves to death.

Yeah, Ralph does not make any sense at all, his odd numbering can kind of be easily explained, but it still doesn't make any sense considering the existing numbers we have and how none go past the one hundreds. Not to mention that Pelican seemed rather weak, it'd take a hell of a lot more Fuel Rod blasts than that to take it out.

Very accurate description of the Prototype, I only liked it because of the awesome "let's blow stuff up because we can".
I loved the Grunt in the Duel, I nearly died laughing from it, and it felt kinda like the gameplay where the Grunts make such random and stupid comments.

gonna say the whole thing was just well...pants, what exactly is there to like about it dare i ask?

What annoyed me about the Package is the way John, Fred and Kelly just ran down the corridor spraying bullets as if they were on easy.

Well, I would imagine the studios didn't have that much of a budget for the shorts, or something, idk, but I think they probably had everything die so easily for timing's sake, if they had fights last as long as they really would the short would have been too long.

the whole thing was a fail...sorry if that offended anyone...actually "the Package" was OK at best

Doesn't offend me, people are allowed to have an oppinion, it's only when they take it too far that I must counter their complains. What specifically didn't you like about them?

The Package seems to be a rather common favorite amongst people.

The Package looked visually good, but was an utter disaster in terms of dialogue, character and canon. To many things to go over in detail, but just awesomely wrong.
Prototype felt reasonably Halo-esque and it tied in some quality animation and Anime dialogue/emotion that i thought made the series make sense a a halo off shoot. But essentially, the whole thing missed the point entirely if is to be taken seriously as official canon or for anyone over the age of 12.
If it designed for a bit of fun for kids as an introduction to the series, then cool, why not?

What's wrong with the Package canon wise? I'd like to think myself an amateur expert on Halo canon, I didn't see anything wrong in it. The dialogue was only really horrible when Chief first thaws Halsey out.

I think the basis of each story, ie the event of the story, is canon, but the various elements of it are not all entirely accurate or canon, such as the appearance of the Arbiter's wife in the Duel or the appearance of Halsey in the Package and Homecoming. Odd One Out is the exception, it's completely non-canon and is only meant as a joke, I guess that's why they named it Odd One Out, hehe.

When your out of options, your trying the wrong options.

Every video in halo legends is considered cannon, except Odd One Out of course, but the different art styles reflected the different message trying to be expressed, such as the appearance of Dr. Halsey in Homecoming compared to the Package, in Homecoming she is viewed as a cruel, vile person and in the Package she is seen as a damsel in distress because of the different view points the story is being told at. Also the videos are told before, during, and after the Human-Coveident war none of them are told during the game trilogy so its kinda hard to say their not cannon because we where never exposed to these missions or battles. And you got to remember the war lasted 20 some years and the books and games only tell so much. I think their all cool and I love to see halo cannon expanded on and I don't really care how bad the voice acting or the art style was. Their amazing stories.
P.S. Cortana did go rampet in Origins that much is cannon and weather that was the plan or just a screw up by the directors it's still interesting.

Err, those god awfuk space bike booster frame things for a start. Or how about the Oni prowler that can take out an entire Covenant fleet "

"What if we run out of time"
"Then I'll no choice but to eliminate the Covenant fleet, the package, and your entire team" or words to this effect..

Just one ship and five star wars rip off space bikes can obliterate and entire fleet? wow, if it was that easy then why is the war even still on?

Why did the Covenant plant a bomb to trap the Spartans? They knew they were coming? then why didnt they just shoot them outta the sky before launch in the prowler? they thought up that whole plan in the 30 seconds it took the Spartans to get to the fleet? i think that's a bit silly.

Since when could afew missles, gauss cannons x 2 punch a hole in capital ship, through its shields?

Why did the shipmaster scuttle the ship? arent Elites honorable, never afraid of a fight, theres only 3 of them and they are on board a capital ship!!!??? If you say its to try and stop them getting the package, then why did they jump to slipspace? Its just rubbish!

And whats that nonsense with John spinning upside down?

Its looked great, but was totally and utterly flawed story wise and little or no research went into the tech used by the UNSC.

  • 12.22.2010 2:45 AM PDT

The Booster Frames were hardly OP they couldn't even take out a Covenant ship, and how are they ripped off Star Wars exactly? Star Wars is one of the things I am a huge nerd about, and their are no "space bikes".

The fleet was hardly obliterated, the only cruiser that was destroyed was the one with the bomb on it, and the flagship of the group scuttled itself.

Obviously however inferior to the Covenant's it is UNSC stealth technology is still quite good as they can sneak up on the fleet, and sneak around in Ghosts of Onyx. The Covenant knew the UNSC would try to get Halsey back, so they created the decoys.

And as for what the commander on the Prowler said, I would assume that they had some sort of nuclear explosive onboard.

The shields were most likely down to let all the Seraphs out, or they overloaded that small section of the shields for a short space of time.

I will agree with you on the part of the shipmaster, that did not seem like an Elite at all, killing his subordinates so callously. And it was to stop them from getting Halsey back, and I think they dropped that last section because they were trying to kill them both, if they could have her no one else could either.

Spinning upside down? I don't remember that, what part of the episode was it, I haven't seen it in a while.
