Can anyone tell me if it's possible to reduce lag? I'm getting problems with on-line Halo and CE.

Close all unnecessary background programs. They eat away at your processor and cause local lag. Also, try getting a better internet connection. That's pretty much all you can do.

To AVOID lag, though, is a different matter. If that's your goal, then join servers with a low ping number. This means that you won't have as much lag. Also, avoid modded servers (on PC). As fun as they might be, they can cause major lag because the main computer must correct each individual computer. If you don't want any lag at all and don't mind waiting around for up to a half hour for some company, then I suggest hosting a game. Also, you might want to consider joining servers that host less than ten people max. Though it might not be as fun, the host computer doesn't have to take care of as many other computers, reducing lag.

When I do join a server with a low ping or no ping, it logs me in the game with over 2,000 ping. How do I lower it if I don't have any backround programs, and how do I even make a server?

Edit: Wait ... how about a theme? Do themes and backrounds cause lag, and does spyware and viruses too?
