Subject: 'Contact Harvest' and 'The Cole Protocol' question.

I've got 5 halo books now. The fall of Reach, The flood and a box set with Contact Harvest, the Cole protocol and Ghosts of Onyx.

I've finished The Fall of Reach and I'm reading the flood right now, but I'm wondering which book I should read first. If I'm right then Ghosts of Onyx is a sequel to First strike, which is a sequel of The Flood.

So I should either read Contact Harvest or The Cole Protocol next. But which one should I read first? Does the order even matter with these two books?

Contact Harvest is a better read IMO, and it explains a lot of the foundational points of the Halo fiction.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

Read Reach, The Flood, then First strike.

as long as you read those in order the rest really dont matter.

YOU'RE STILL ALIVE?!?

They both happen before the other books you listed. Contact Harvest happens before Cole Protocol. I don't think they are all that related to each other though so I don't think it matters which one you read first.

I reccomend Contact Harvest.

Seriously Oak, Ive been doing this -blam!- for 16 years, gimmie my Friggen starter Pokemon and dont call me till im the champion! ¬_¬

Oooo there all good really, but reading in order of release seems to be the best option, so start with FOR, The Flood, First Strike, Onyx, then your choice really for cole and harvest

harvest details greatly the whole start of the war, but cole does wonders for the imagery of the insurection struggling to keep fighting with the covies around c:

im still struggling to find time to finish evolutions, im on "the impossible life and possible death of preston j cole"

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I read them like this:

Fall of Reach
The Flood
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx
Contact Harvest
The Cole Protocol

That was a good order to read them in, try that.

That's how I'm planning on doing it. I've read up to Contact Harvest, and I think I'm getting The Cole Protocol for Christmas.

The only problem is that I don't have First strike. But judging from these responses, Contact Harvest is the next book I'm going to read. Unless I can get First Strike before that.

On its own, I would recommend First Strike. It is by far one of the best books in the series. If you can, you need to get it.

As for the two you mentioned, I would also recommend reading Contact Harvest. It really does a lot to explain why humanity and the Covenant are at war.

We're never what we invent or intend.

The order I read them in, in my opinion the best:
[1] Contact Harvest -- circa 2525
[2] Cole Protocol -- circa 2540? (no date given)
[3] Fall of Reach -- from 2517 to 2552
[4] The Flood -- fall 2552
[5] First Strike -- winter 2552
[6] Ghosts of Onyx -- spring 2553
[7] Halo: Evolutions -- various dates between ~2517 and 2553

Even though FoR tells the whole story, and Evolutions jumps all over the place (being a short story collection) the order I put them in doesn't create any big chronological glitches, as far as I know.

Contact Harvest comes first. There are actually direct references to important events from the book in The Cole Protocol, so it'll help if you know exactly what's being talked about.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT READING IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER!
They were released in the order they were for a reason; information is revealed in a natural way over time, and the newer books make more sense given the context of the older ones.

To directly answer your question, no. I read The Cole Protocol first and it didn't make a difference, the order of those two are interchangeable.
