Bacon for all !!!!!!!!!!!111111111111

wait so lemme get this straight. humans were super advanced intergalactic people. they annoyed the forerunners and got devolved. also what time period is the book happening in and what planet are they on. holy --BLAM-- my head just asploded!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, we still believe in all the things that we stood by before.
I know, to everything we've seen here, maybe even more.
I know we're not the only ones and we were not the first.
And unapologetically we stand behind each word.

Holy crap. I need to get this book.

On the other hand am i the only one thinking that the ruins in the babysitter were human ones?

The planet in "The Babysitter" is called Heian. It is mentioned in the Halo: Evolutions short story From the Office of Dr. William Arthur Iqbal. Iqbal writes:

I direct your attention to the photographs from Heian. There were obvious Forerunner elements in that architecture, but also unmistakable architectural themes from Greco-Roman, East Asian, and Middle Eastern eras. All of those buildings predated human travel to that world by perhaps hundreds maybe thousands of years. We find ourselves wondering if they borrowed from our history, or we from theirs. It is impossible that it was a coincidence.

Although Cryptum is a new novel, it looks like its events were planed out for quite a while, and it meshes with other established canon. I look forward to reading it.

they're on earth.

The fourth planet in a system of 8 is called Edom and is described as a red expansive desert (Mars)

The 3rd planet is described as human-centric and a large pearl of blues, greens, and snow. They both orbit a yellows star, and the descriptions of some of the human "sub-races" (like Skirmishers to Jackals) fit the likes of Neanderthals and such.

And didn't Born say the Librarian was on Erde-Tyrene (Earth)?

Hey, now!

This is officially either the greatest or worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. I'm going with the former.

This just blew my mind-Can't wait for the book to come out. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of it goes. I'm pretty pumped now!

And to think, the whole time I thought the Japanese were just being obnoxious with their artistic license and Frank came up with that explanation to justify it. 343 industries is pretty sneaky.

A thought just struck me: was it ever explicitly stated that the Halo rings were created to respond to the Flood?

What I'm thinking is: what if the Forerunners didn't create the Halo array after all? It could have been this progenitor humanity that we've just found out about. An incredibly powerful weapon that can target any living being and completely wipe them out. Maybe the Forerunners found out about the array before it was complete and that's why they went to war with us. Then they oversaw its completion, installed monitors on the array and told their people that they had created Halo.

Just a crazy idea which most likely isn't true. Still, it's a possibility.

Are you sure it said that they built them at that time? I only remember them saying that they will have to use it. Granted I haven't read them in a LONG time but still...

And yes, a Forerunner game with Greg Bear as the lead writer would be amazing, the breath of fresh air Halo badly needs.

guilty spark says it himself, "Weapons of last resort. Built by the Forerunners to eliminate potential Flood hosts, thereby rendering the Parasite harmless." Plus, all other sources support this statement.

  • 12.23.2010 11:32 AM PDT

Yes, but the monitors were programmed by the Forerunners. They could have been fed lies. I'm just saying, humanity and the Forerunners wouldn't war for no reason. Halo could be it.

Edit: I've been reading through the terminals and it's not said that the Halo array was built with the arrival of the Flood. Indeed, I always thought it a little strange that they just happened to be able to build these super-weapons when they were needed.

This may warrant some good old fashioned Wolverfrog theorising. I'll probably wait until the book is released, though.

I also caught something amazing.

"Our [so-called Guardianship] has stripped those we would keep safe of any capacity for self-defense!"

Hints about this have been dropped for years. Wow.

This could also be the reason for why humans (Or a least a few of them) can vaguely remember the controls for forerunner tech on halo...

ah, but remember, the forerunners dismantled humanity's civilization, halo would have been one of them. Furthermore, shield worlds and the ark, both of which are important parts of the halo array. If all those were human, the forerunners would have dismantled them. Remember, also, that the librarian, a forerunner built the portal to the ark on earth. Why would a forerunner build something having to do with a human installation? Assuming the ark is human of course.
Lastly, I don't think that humans were advanced enough to build those structures in the first place. I think they were a tier 2 species at the time, which is not advanced enough to build worlds.

  • 12.23.2010 11:52 AM PDT

Because the Forerunners realised that the Halo array was too important to be dismantled. The Forerunners built the portal during the Flood war to evacuate humanity to the Ark.

And you don't know that they're Tier 2. Considering how the Forerunner-human war seems to be regarded by Bornstellar as a great one, I imagine that it's wholly possible they were of a similar technological level.

And monitors knowledge on the forerunners is limited in case they would be captured by the flood

Forerunner RPG game anyone?

So basically you're saying that after the forerunners defeated the humans tens of thousands of years before the flood came, the forerunners said, "hmmm, we better keep these halos around so we can commit galactic suicide when the flood come even though we are completely unaware of their existence," yeah, that makes total sense /sarcasm/. And the forerunner-human war could have been considered great because the humans fought well despite being technologically inferior. Btw, why would the forerunners program spark to lie because I can't think of a single reason that could make any sense.

If that is the case, then Humanity quite literally are "Reclaimers".

Yeah, I find it hard to believe that it would be considered a war if they were anything less than near equals. The Covenant, being Tier 2, would not last at all. Humanity had to have posed a significant risk for the Forerunner to strip them not only of their technology but their knowledge and capacity to think.

The Forerunner are seeming quite hypocritical here. That is essentially genocide, is it not? Billions would have certainly been killed. You get that impression that when Bornstellar says that the last Humans were moved back to Earth. Of what worth is their Mantle then?

There's also this, in the Terminals. I always thought it was Mendicant Bias speaking to the Forerunners, but it could be something else:

I render judgment on you; you who would obstruct destiny. Doing so brings me no joy; it is necessity that compels me.

Understand this: the Mantle you have shouldered I do rescind - with far more consideration than it was granted.

I kill you all and I enjoy it. I destroy you in your indolent billions - in your gluttony, in your self-righteousness, in you arrogance. I pound your cities into dust; turn back the clock on your civilization's progress. What has taken you millennia to achieve I erase in seconds.

Welcome back to the [Stone Age], vermin. Welcome home.

You are an impediment that the universe can no longer abide. Nature itself cries out for your destruction and I am its willing instrument. I will hammer your cities until no stone lies atop another. I will drive your people back into the caves they never should have left.

Your civilization has seen its final days. You will know your place.

Your history is an appalling chronicle of overindulgence and self-appointed authority. You have spent millennia [navel-gazing] while the universe has continued to evolve. And now you claim the Mantle is justification for impeding nature's inevitable refinement?

You are deluded. But through death you will transcend ignorance.

It could be the Forerunner talking to humanity. It's probably not, but it fits. The way the speaker talks of turning the clock back, driving back to the Stone Age, pounding cities into dust... it doesn't seem much like the Flood assimilating them, when you think about it. It does however fit the devolution and exile of humanity perfectly. What if humanity was the original holder of the Mantle, and the Forerunners took it from them by force?

You keep arguing from conjecture and this really annoys me.
On topic: That is definitely mendicant bias. he mentioned that nature called for the forerunners destruction. The gravemind convinced m. bias that the flood were the next step in evolution. Thus, bias is referring to the flood as nature.

Sorry wolvers i have to agree here, plus in the excerpt (i can only read the second chapter) it describes the Forerunners as arrogant too.
