Subject: Why did the UNSC change frigate design?

On a related note, ******'s mom has really nice boobs, and it doesn't take much booze or encouragement to get her to let the puppies out of the pen...if you know what I mean...

After comparing the frigates in Halo Reach to the frigate in Halo 3, it seems that Halo 3's hangar is A LOT bigger than Halo Reach's. So if someone could tell me why I would appreciate it.

I knew that, but still, they changed design form Reach to 3.

Reaches frigates are inferior to Halo 3's version, because they are the older form.

OK, but how long was Reach before 3?

The end of Halo Reach is within days of the beginning of Halo CE

So how could they change so fast. Also some frigates in 3 could have been on Reach. Maybe it was just a visual effect by Bungie.

I dont think so, in the time between Halo CE and Halo 3, i think they would have upgraded.

  • 12.22.2010 1:27 PM PDT

I don't think it's a matter of how old they are, I mean, Halo 3 is like a couple of months after the events of Reach. Frigates come in different shapes, and some are more fitted for transport and have more space for cargo, while some are dedicated solely to warfare, and as such have smaller cargo bays.

I'm not sure of which Frigates you're comparing, have any pics?

On halopedia it says that form Reach to 3 that the hangar is much bigger. And also I am comparing Forward Unto Dawn (that was Halo 3, right) to Savannah.

The Frigates change size for a few reasons: they needed to store more in less space, so they upgraded the frigates' size in the bay from Reach where Reach had all it needed. By far considerable amounts.

Two: They were fighting the Covenant for a longer amount of time into Halo 3, calling the need of larger pods, ships, bays, etc., all to take the Covenant on with at least a fair base.

Three: The time it takes to make a Frigate is not very long and it's built around the central MAC cannon in its mid. That's also why it got larger: more space to house it all requires more all-around space.

There may be more, but I'm a bit brain-dead.

The time from Reach to Halo 3 is approximately six months, if I remember correctly. January of 2553 is when Halo 3 left off, and Reach begins ~ in June of 2552.

Yea, it's artistic license, not an upgrade.

I do believe he's right, or at least mostly. The different classes of cruiser, ex. Marathon and Halcyon are distinctly different, even looking from the outside. Frigates are just as diverse, with many different roles and layouts, but in such a small ship, these changes are less apparent.

Likely, the In Amber Clad and Savannah are the same class, heavy naval frigates (not much hanger space) while Forward Unto Dawn is an assault frigate, carrying amuch larger compliment of dropships and fighters. Said roles could be vice-versa, really.

But that's my two bits.

  • 12.22.2010 6:40 PM PDT

they are likely just different variants of a frigate, suited to different duties, obviously the ones with the large cargo bay are designed to drop large forces planetside in a hurry, where as the 'heavy' frigates are more space combat orientated and have far reduced cargo capacity.

I only know of one frigate that was in The Battle of Reach, that was also in The Battle of Earth. That's the Aegias Fate or something like that.

first of all, the pillar of autumn isn't a frigate. its a halcyon cruiser. The reason they are different is because bungie realized that the old design looked pretty stupid. They wanted to change it, but they had to justify it and say that the different looking ships in halo 2 were a different class of ship, so they called them frigates. In reach, they decided to use the old design because they wanted to make a tie in from the end of reach to the beginning of halo CE. They had to use the old ship, so that's why they have the weird looking ship.

Are you stupid? They're comparing The FRIGATE Savhanna to the FRIGATE Forward unto Dawn. They're not comparing Frigates to Halcyon-class cruisers.

Aegis Fate and Forward unto Dawn were present in the battle of Earth. I'm pretty sure they were also at Reach.

Sadly many people think that the POA is a frigate instead of a cruiser.

Generally, the navy doesn't have just one type of ship in every class.

particularly when you've been building a fleet for the past 30 years for a war you are about to lose, you end up with quite a mish-mash.

I swear Halo 3 ended in March... But seeing how Halo 2 started in October, thats a reasonable date.
