We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand and of overwhelming force on the other.

Earth...Is all we have left...
-Lord Terrence Hood.

October 20, 2552, 0100 Hours.

Chapter I

It was a crispy morning in New Mombasa, just a little while after midnight. Major Mark Hamill, an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, working on an ONI Operation at the time, was commanding a team of advance Force Recon ODSTs.

"I still cant believe how hard they hit us on Reach.", Stated Hamill, making conversation with new Captain Maria Valentino, a close-assault specialist who was stationed on the far side of Mars just weeks ago.

"To tell you the truth, Major, I cant believe it either, it all went by so, so, fast.", replied Valentino.

The group was stationed on a half-kilometer high skyscraper, pulling security for the area.

Washington's radio suddenly made loud noises, waking up the 25-year old Corporal, the teams communications specialist, suddenly. "Tango Team... how copy?", came out of the radio, sending Huff, Tango's Marksman, into a riot of laughter, prompting him to state, "Ha! What makes you think HIGHCOM cares about Tango?", "Shut it down!", Replied a surprised Hamill.

"Command, good copy. Continue...", Hamill said into the radio, sending Private Huff, into a quick question to Valentino, "What do ya' think they need this time?", Valentino, in her quick wits, answered back fast, "Probably another Security Op, for some ceremony or some funeral."

"Tango, we have a Pelican Transport inbound, load up your gear, General Lincoln wants you at Facility-NM-HCZ3 ASAP."
"Whoa, High Command, Zone 3 is over in Old City.", stated Washington. "You heard him people, High Command, Old Mombasa. Load up, were going on a field trip!" Barked Hamill to his squad-mates.

Chapter II

October 20, 2552, 0700 HRS.

"Welcome aboard sir." said the Pelican's pilot. "Thank you pilot, whats our ETA?", asked Hamill. "30 Mics, give or take a few minutes." "Copy That." replied Hamill.

The pelican flew over New Mombasa, with the Sun rising, giving a beautiful backdrop to the City's awe inspiring skyline.
Tango watched as the Pelican neared a courtyard with a large office building in it, many UNSC Marines, and Army soldiers alike, were scurrying around.

"Whoa, that is a big building!" Stated Huff. "Well, thats not where we're going." Replied a satisfied Valentino, speaking of the super-bunker under the office, where members of High Command & ONI went about daily work.

"We have bad news, Major." sighed General Lincoln. "Might I ask, what it is, sir?" replied a confused Valentino, who was a Captain, and would normally be told she was way out of line, but this was Tango Squad, one of the best ODST Recon Teams on Earth.

"We are expecting a Covenant invasion, a big one too." replied a stern, strong Lincoln. "Its gonna be bad, reel' bad, but nothing the Big Sticks cant handle, refering to the Super-MAC Platforms, the 200 of them, over Earth. "Covenant?!", asked a surprised Hamill. "Yes", Lincoln gave him a simple answer, "We are expecting them... today"

Chapter III

October 20, 2552, 1200 HRS.

A Frigate appeared on the horizon, strong, armed to the teeth. It was clad in reinforced titanium. "This your new home, Tango.", said a young beautiful ONI operative, Malissa Williams.
"Home?" Asked Washington, very curious. "Yes, we need all ODST prepared to drop in the event of an invasion, ONI Protocol 5.50-EDF.", replied a very technical Williams. "Oh, okay.", sighed a confused Huff, who was enjoying New Mombasa. For obvious reasons.

October 20, 2552, 1300 HRS.

"This is one roomy ship." Said Valentino, talking about the Frigate's large cargo-bay. She was used to closed in spaces, she preferred them actually. Warthogs and a few tanks were in there with them, including the Pelicans.

"Attention, all crew members and troops, we will be docking with Super-MAC Platform Athens, in a matter of minutes.", rang out over the loud speakers. "MAC Platforms, wow." stated Hamill. "We are going to pick up ammunition and hydrogen fuel.", said Commander Farimbo Akumbi, a well known Marine Officer from Africa.

Commander Akumbi commanded the 750 Marines in the "Cobra Head" 566th. He was well know for his willingness to lead the fight, bringing his regiment up front, so-to-speak. He was in charge of a Marine Regiment - The 566th Armored.

Suddenly, the Frigate, named UNSC Richmond, came to a slower pace, felt by all of its crew. The Richmond's AI, Natalia, came over the speakers in an Eastern-European voice, "Attention! We have detected 15 Covenant Capital Class Ships, just outside of SMAC kill zones!" "What do we do?!" Asked a nervous Hamill to Commander Akumbi. "Lets git this ship loaded up and battle-ready!", Akumbi shouted back.

Captain Joseph Scott's voice came over the InterCom. "The Athens has been boarded! We are prepping engines for departure now." Tango Squad, now on the bridge, watched as an Assault Carrier slipped through defensive lines and made a decent towards Africa. Suddenly, everything was rocked with a huge shake. Alarms went off. The covenant had sent more boarding craft to the Athens.

Chapter IV

October 20, 2552, 1400 HRS.

A long battle had ensued on the Athens. The Marines were beaten back to the Armory, and slaughtered. Captain Jim McKay, commanding Naval Officer on the Athens, had sealed himself and remaining men on the bridge, and were communicating with Super-MAC Platform Cairo.

Things were heard over the radio, like how the Covenant had control over the Platform, and how they were trapped on the bridge. Suddenly, two loud latched were heard, releasing the Richmond from the Athens.

Almost 50 seconds later, an extremely loud BOOM was heard. The Athens had been destroyed. The Covenant planted an anti-matter bomb on it. It shook the Richmond, but we were ok.

"Lord Hood wants us to do a fly-by near the Cairo, needs some intel", stated Hamill, after hearing from Captain Scott. "Why cant he just ask him what he needs to know so bad?" Barked Valentino. "They're jammed, the Covenant doesn't want us to know what they're up to.", answered Washington.

Chapter V

October 20, 2552, 1500 HRS

The Richmond started to get closer to the Cairo as the battle ensued between the Covenant and UNSC around Earth. Tango noticed multiple boarding craft lodged into the Cairo, they reported to Captain Scott. "Sir, we have multiple boarding craft on the Cairo, I am counting ten on this surface alone.", reported Hamill into his radio. "Good Copy trooper.", replied Scott.

Huff, who was being quite quiet at the time, was alerted by something that caught his eye. He had heard earlier over the comms that the Covenant had a bomb of some sort on the Cairo.
He saw a large, olive green figure, floating through space, clenching a large, black round object. "Hey, hey guys! Look!" yelled Huff, while on the lower bridge. "What is it Huff?", asked Valentino. "Holy....", replied a shocked Valentino, after Huffs second shout of "Look!"

The figure was seen floating towards an Assault Carrier, the one that stayed in orbit to fight, to be exact. A cruiser flew by and fired a salvo of Archer-Missile Pods at the carrier while it's shield were down, from SMAC fire, most likely.

The figure entered the hole, and 7 seconds later, the Assault Carrier exploded, rocking the Richmond.

"We got orders troopers." Said Hamill. "Sir?", asked Washington. "We are going back to Earth, back... to New Mombasa."

Chapter VI

October 25, 2552, 1700 HRS

The UNSC Richmond continues its decent on Earth, coming to a halt over New Mombasa. All troops on board are given 3 hours to prep their gear before going down closer to the city.

The Richmond was currently sitting pretty, over New Mombasa about 20 miles above the city. Troops and crew have 30 minutes left to prep gear and mount up on Pelicans for deployment, ordered by High Command, for securing the city, which was host to valuable ONI sites, ONI documents, ect.

1900 Hours, 20 Miles above New Mombasa

"Captain Scott, how long until we finish decent.", asked Major Hamill. "A few minutes, give or take. We cant descend so fast, not good for the hull.", replied Captain Scott. "Copy that", replied Hamill from the Richmond's cargo bay.

The Marines of the 566th "Cobra Head" Armored Regiment, were gearing up, loading onto Pelicans. Many of them were being deployed to secure key positions around Old & New Mombasa, one being the New Mombasa Police Department HQ.

A pair of Gauss Warthogs whizzed by, with no gunners, they were latched onto Pelicans, to be taken to secure the ground. A Scorpion Main Battle Tank rolled by, also latching onto another Pelican, all of the Pelicans were filled with troops, equipment, or had vehicles attached to them. All except for one. Loading up with a group of the 566th Sappers, a demolition team. Leading them was the Commander.

"Commander!", yelled Hamill. "Major?" replied Akumbi. "Watch your back out there!", again, yelled Hamill. "You do the same!" replied the Commander. The Commander's Pelican pulled out of the Richmond's cargo bay slowly.

Chapter VII

October 20, 2552, 1900 HRS.

"Major?" asked Captain, over the vacant cargo bay, except for all of the reserves in equipment, gear, and vehicles, the only people in the cargo bay were Tango Squad.

Huff, relaxing sitting on a small crate, was grabbing an extra 15 rounds for his SRS 99(C) Anti Material Rifle.

Hew was knocking some dirt off of his Recon helmet, when Hamill shouted for him to hurry up, he grunted, and nodded his head in agreement.

Valentino, on the other hand, was very nervous. She was clearing her M90 CAWS, pump, after pump, after pump. She slung her MA5K Carbine over her back, it caught on her Mk. V (CQB) Helmet. She pulled it off, and the gun, made for special-operations, rested on her back. Hamill, again yelled, "That applies to you too killer!"

Chaper VIII

October 20, 2552, 1930 HRS.

"We drop in 10 minutes people!" yelled Hamill. "Major Hamill?", Captain Scott asked. "Yes, Captain?" replied Hamill. "We are currently 2 miles above New Mombasa, you are clear to drop, I repeat, your team is clear to drop Major."

Tango Squad made their final preps for their night time insertion into New Mombasa. "Hop in your cans people!" laughed Hamill at an old joke between his squad mates, calling HEVs cans.

Washington was laughing at the situation, but was stopped by Huff. "I don't think this is a joke, Wash, but remember your training and we can laugh later."

"We drop in 10 seconds!" yelled Hamill, who continued his countdown. "6", "3", "Drop!"

The HEVs soared down, Hamill could see his own face, including his men, on four screens fitted into their HEVs.

Hamill saw, along with Washington, and Huff, saw Valentino hit the roof of a building in her HEV. "Valentino! Are you okay!?" Valentino cleared her throat, "I'm okay Major! Continue the mission, I'll wait here, Valentino out.", said Veronica. "Wait, no!" The radio went dead, as Hamill tried again to reach his Captain.

Chapter IX

October 20, 2552, 2000 HRS.

The team had landed on the Coastal Highway, the road surrounding New Mombasa. They exited their HEVs and took a quick look around to asses the situation.

By this moment, night had fully taken its grip on New Mombasa. The flaming ruins of skyscrapers, bridges, and famous city sites, were all noticeable against the almost black backdrop.

Huff took out his binoculars, and looked across the river, he spotted a canal in Old Mombasa, where he saw a destroyed husk that was once a Scarab. The Scarabs one of the most feared vehicles in the Covenant arsenal. It is a large walker, with immensely powerful main cannon.

Huff didn't think much of it, and was called by Hamill. "Get over hear Huff, hurry." Huff jogged over and stopped next to the duo. "Tell him Wash." said the Major.

Part IV

Chapter X

October 20, 2552, 2050 HRS

"We can see a large tower up and over the sea wall. We can also see a green figure of some sort on top of it.", explained Washington. "Yeah, so what do you need me for?" replied a cocky Huff.

The team was standing on the vacant highway. Nothing but vehicles, a few dead bodies, both Covenant and Human, scattered around the area. Huff, the teams scout, had the pair of high-powered binoculars. "Lemme see those Huff.", asked Washington, who then handed them to Major Hamill. "Yeah, its a Pelican." sighed Hamill, realizing how far away it was. He then handed the binoculars back to Huff.

"I'd say its 2, maybe 2 and a half miles away, easy." sighed Huff. Who didn't like long distance travel. "And look!" The trio's heads swiveled to see the smoke on top of another distant tower, where Captain Valentino had landed just minutes earlier.

The air was thick with smoke, and the team stood there in silence for a moment. But then, from behind a pair of barrels, crates and a car, came loud banging noises. The team quietly moved behind a turned over Transport Warthog. Growls came from behind some bushes. The team knew what had just happened as the shadowy figures moved behind the bushes and disappeared into an alleyway.

Hamill explained what had just happened. "After nightfall, the Covenant deploys highly trained teams of Jackals, not with shield gauntlets, with rifles. They should be feared, I have seen them before. Remember this, you will see them again tonight, I kid you not."

Chapter XI

October 20, 2552, 2100 HRS.

After gathering the gear and supplies from the crash site, the team mounted up on the Warthog. They sped down the highway, no Covenant in their way, it was very quiet, too quiet. The city still in flames, had one thing over it, a Covenant Cruiser, glassing one area, continuously.

Suddenly, a pair of Jackals opened fire on the team with carbines, hitting the Warthog, doing no damage. A Phantom flew overhead with a pair of Ghost but ignored the speeding vehicle.

The team drove under a Scarab, another destroyed one, with a hole clear through the hull, Huff made a comment, "MAC rounds, right through it." It was the newer model, purple with a smaller hull. Still dangerous, Tango could thank the Navy for not having to fight it.

They went over a small bridge, hit a small bump, and flipped over. Hamill hit his head on something hard, it was a Brute helmet. It gave him bad flashbacks. He never liked the Brutes, they weren't as bad as Elites, but he still had a personal hatred for them, he never told anyone why though.

They flipped the Hog back over, the framework over the rear seats fell off with a loud bang. It alerted a large Covenant ambush, the 2 Ghost they saw earlier flew out of cover. Brutes and Jackals opened fire form vantage points on the sea wall. "Lets jump!" yelled Hamill. The team was pinned down behind the Warthog. "What?!" responded Wash. "In the River?!" replied Huff. "Yes! Hurry" were the last things Hamill said.

The team ran for the edge of the bridge as the Warthog behind them exploded after being hit from a Fuel Rod Cannon. Srapnel flew everywhere, non hit Tango Squad. Hamill yelled, "Now!".

The team jumped into a large canal that cut into the heart of New Mombasa. The tide quickly picked them up and carried them into the city.

Chapter XII

October 20, 2552, 2300 HRS.

The washed up near an industrial warehouse of some sort. "That was close." stated Washington, who shook the water off of his Battle Rifle. Hamill did the same, along with his sidearm. Huff commented, "We have been drifting for hours.". "I know, at least we got out of that alive. There had to be 25 Covies there alone!" replied Hamill.

The team entered the warehouse. Hamill grabbed a Grunt and snapped its neck, he knew that there had to be more Covenant nearby. "Lets find Valentino." said Washington. "Yeah, were gonna need all the help we can get finding our way to safety again.", replied Hamill.

The team walked out of the front entrance of the building, and were in awe at the destruction. Fire was everywhere, destroyed buildings vehicles, bodies. "Lets find some transport."

To be continued, in this thread.

I definitely love the concept and I love the overall picture. But I see a few phrases that well need to be rephrased, other than that I would love to read more.

It's good. The only major problem I've noticed is the dialog(not the dialog itself, but the grammar of it). Any time someone different talks, it needs to be a different paragraph. There were some parts where I was confused about who was talking.

Other than that, it was a great read!
