(Competing with CE, Pokemon RBY and Fable: TLC, but they're still behind it)
There's so many things I love about this game. Firstly the campaign, it tells the story extremely well and stretching it out between 13 playable levels, more than any other game. Its awesome seeing the war from both perspectives, and leading squads of Spec-Op Elites with the Arbiter and R'tas 'Vadum. I am an absolutely Halo lore freak, and seeing the true ranks of the Elites in the game (Minor, Major, Ultra, Zealot along with the speciality ranks) made the campaign absolutely perfect on Legendary. I've done it so many times now that I know the exact locations of any threats, so I'm quick to neutralize them, making levels less difficult, but still hard enough to make it fun. It also had what Reach didn't - smaller, larger scale battles. The fight at the start of Quarantine Zone, holding a fort in Outskirts against 25 or so oncoming Covenant with a Rocket Launcher, Sniper Rifle and a handful of Marines, and let's not forget Uprising, fighting alongside a Zealot and other Elites to pack vengeance on the Brutes. Every level felt magical to me. Boss battles were also neat, especially the Tartarus fight. (Except Regret on Legendary, that took me so damn long. Mythic appearantly takes 100+ hits to kill, an absolutely ridiculous feat to accomplish). Oh, and I hate Reach Elite ranks. They absolutely massacred what I love about Elites. -blam!- you, Reach. Finally, I LOVED how in this game I actually cared about my troopers' lives, giving them powerful weapons and cover to ensure they made it to the end of the level and lived to see another day.
Most players found the multiplayer to be the selling point of this game, and its nothing short of amazing. Great physics, balanced weapons and vehicles, skillful rank system + leveling up, awesome maps, it just felt so well put together. Apart from the Shotgun's inconsistency, all the weapons in this game were pretty awesome, especially the Battle Rifle. It's the perfect skill weapon, even better than H3's (it has a bullet spread). I can't honestly believe they made the DMR, that miserable, luck filled excuse for a weapon. Most of the maps were memorable and exceptional, Waterworks, Coagulation, Relic, Sanctuary, Headlong, Turf, must I go on? Halo Reach royally boned everyone with horrible maps. It also had Armor Abilities, but this isn't a rant thread, I could go on all day about those. Also, Spectre is my favourite vehicle of all time, having one fully loaded with people made you feel like you had a death machine, even though the turret kinda sucked. And grenades aren't overpowered, oh how I love non overpowered grenades. Removing H2's XBL was probably the worst decision you've ever made Microsoft, above charging up 60 bucks for Fable: TLC and Halo 3: ODST.
Just a few thoughts of mine put together about an absolutely terrific game. Bungie's latest game, Halo Reach is ruining Halo, especially with the amount of fanboys on the Reach forum. Feel free to post anything you loved about this terrific game.
