if humanity didnt fight and eat our way to the top of the food chain we might not be hear today because tools would be need to get the food. sure we dont need to eat meat we also dont need to watch tv or fight in wars or read books or hell we dont need the internet because there isnt an evolutionary reason.

All I'm going to say is, what a crock of shiz. If you want to be a ninny eating leafy greens then have fun with a defunct immune system and a severe lack of vitamin and minerals. And at that - no supplement pills because they did not have that back in the evolutionary steps.

Wrong. Very wrong. All necessary vitamins and minerals are available in sufficient quantities from Vegan sources, but without the fat, cholesterol, and other health issues, and without murdering innocent beings. I've been Vegan since age 12 (about 5 years) and I am perfectly healthy. I know lots of Vegans, I have lots of Vegan friends, I've been to lots of Vegan forums, and almost all Vegans say that they became significantly healthier after stopping to eat animal products. All the issues that people bring up are not issues at all. Iron, protein, omega 3, etc. is all available in sufficient quantities from plant foods.
The only thing that can occasionally be an issue is B12, but that can also be an issue for meat eaters. A few centuries ago people got B12 naturally from sources such as soil on their vegetables since the hygiene standards then were much lower than they are now, and meat was not required. Most Vegans never have to worry about it, and if they do it's not due to not eating animal products.
I think that you will find this article to be very informative.

My Gastroenterologist and the nutritionist I had to talk to after my surgery told me that I require more red meat than the average person. So I have to eat meat, in larger quantities than recommended, according to my Doctor.

I'm going to listen to them, not you.

I eat meat. I enjoy eating meat. You don't? Good for you. Telling me I can't eat meat? Go -blam!- die.

In some respect agree with you and in some respect I don't. I do totally agree that if humans are to eat meat, the animals the meat comes form should be respected until they die.
Anyway, I'm surprised this thread got so popular so quick. It just started today, didn't it?

It's not 'red meat' that you need. It's a certain nutrient that's in the meat. Since I'm not a nutritionist I don't know what specific nutrient it is, but all you have to do is ask the doctor. I guarantee you that if you do a web search, you can find a Vegan source of that nutrient. And yes, I can know this without knowing your specific situation, because all necessary nutrients are available in sufficient quantities from a Vegan diet. Also, you say that you need 'more' meat than most people, implying that most people need some, which is not true--As I said in the previous post, Vegans are perfectly healthy. We are also naturally herbivores--see the link in my previous post.

Actually it is. I have a problem absorbing iron. Were I to eat green vegetables in the quantity I require to get the iron I need, the excess fiber would cause me more problems than the lack of iron. Mainly a blockage in my intestines, that could lead to perforations.

Since it's not just the nutritional requirements, I'll just eat meat. It's preferable to taking the chance and possibly requiring additional surgery.

Edit: I also absorb my B vitamins and Iron more efficiently when I get it through meat sources. Supplements, and Soy products just aren't as good.

First time here? I love you.

Been here before? I still love you.

Meat can be good for you.

Plants are living creatures too, technically.

Animals eat meat all the time, it's the natural balance of things. Less advanced creatures are consumed by more advanced creatures.

Cows produce lots of Methane that gets put into the atmosphere and destroys the ozone layer, by eating them, we reduce the amount of Methane that is produced by cows.

What else do pigs, cows, and chicken contribute to the world other than being a source of food and energy?

I have plenty of reasons to justify the eating of animals. Besides, I eat plants too. There is a reason why humans are classified as omnivores and not carnivores or herbivores. It's not like we only consume meat, and we shouldn't restrict ourselves to fruits and vegetables either.

I can disprove this statement.

Male musk deer have fangs, but are herbivores.

Elephant tusks are a modified version of the upper incisors, but they don't eat meat.

Hippos have very long lower and upper canines, but are predominantly herbivores.

There ya go..........

Now, I have a few questions for you:

What niche do humans have on the planet? Wild boars (ancestors of domestic pigs) had an actual niche in their native European habitats before being spread out by humans. Rats had a niche in their southeast Asian habitat before humans spread the mall around the world. What was human's roel in their natural habitat (Africa)?

Also, haven't you realized why there's so many cows on the planet? To sustain such a rapidly expanding human populace....... Limiting the amount of humans born per family will also help limit the amount of food animals that may pose a threat to the environment.

Wouldn't you agree with those two statements?

I agree with the first half of your second statement. As for the other half, I don't believe in limiting the number of people born, although I agree that it would help lower the number of animals that we need to raise.

And as for your first statement, that's what you call evolution. Our role was the same as any other creature, and is still true today. The goal of any living creature is to try and adapt above and beyond the rest. To be dominant. When you become the dominant force, you basically control the inferior animals of the world. Sure it may sound terrible to say, but it's the truth. It's the natural order of the world. Every creature has a purpose to fulfill, whether it be to try and develop over time, or to be a source of food for another creature to further develop.

Maroon 5 is awesome. Deal with it.

But in seriousness, I like the taste of it and I'm going to keep eating it. Red Meat gives a high boost of protein, iron and fat. This food is used to help the blood. It's good for you.

Deal with it.

As Morrissey once said: "nobody can come up with a good argument for eating animals - nobody can.

I didn't climb to the top of the food chain to eat shrubs.

I could stop there but I won't.

People as some kind of a joke say, well, 'It's tasty', but it's only tasty once you garnish it and you put salt and pepper, and you cook it, and you have to do 300 things to it to disguise its true taste.
Actually my mom just puts salt and onions on meat and it taste great. Without that stuff it doesn't taste like anything.

If you put garnishes on a chair or fabric, it would probably taste quite nice."
No, it wouldn't. Unless it's leather ;)

Animals who die for your dinner table die alone, in terror, in sadness and in pain. The killing is merciless and inhumane.
Everyone dies alone. Nobody can be your but buddy into the void.

Cow meat that is kosher comes from a cow that had its throat slit. The most painless way to die. Now if only every slaughter house was like that...

There is absolutely no reason why we should eat meat from an evolutionary or 'natural' perspective either. Our bodies are not designed to.
Really? I suppose that's why cavemen didn't hunt right? I also suppose that's why muscle isn't built off of proteins which meat doesn't happen to have in large amounts? I also suppose it wasn't this protein and nutrition that allowed Humans to develop larger brains.

Besides, no matter how much rabbit food I eat, I'm never full. I just keep eating, and I'm never satisfied. However nothing makes me feel better than a nice hot plate of chicken, or beef. Mmmmmm.
Just, how do I stop, I suppose you could say I'm addicted.
You don't stop. You just eat, and enjoy it. Everything is going to die at some point, it might as well benefit the planet in someway.

-Plants provide oxygen that we breath, and fruit.

-Animals provide companions (dogs), and food.

-Humans (whom are animals BTW), sadly don't really have a benefit, other than to continue our corrupt, superficial, economic systems. Although The man who allows us to colonize other planets and escape into other universes will have the greatest meaning to his life.

There is no reason NOT to eat meat. Get over yourself.

And survival of the fittest also applies to humans. Dominating over a more primitive ethnicity of humans is an example of Darwinism, wouldn't you say so? After all, human are evolving and it's only safe to say that if survival of the fittest is a belief that pertains to other animals, couldn't it pertain to the human race a well?

I would say so. It's not a very good concept, but the more advanced societies of the human race have been known to dominate over the less technologically advanced. I'm not sure how this pertains to the justification of eating meat, though. I don't mean to derail our discussion, but I don't want to get off track to the subject at hand.
