You really have no clue, what your talking about. Humans have a greater capacity for empathy, than any other species, on the planet.

Evidently...

So go ahead, stop eating meat, but don't give up on fish.

I'm actually not a full vegan. I do eat fish (not industrial), sea food, and insects.
Well, there goes your argument out the window.

What was that about showing compassion?

Mors viae ad reverentiam est.

Vincis vel mortis.

You do know that even cows eat meat?

C'mon Wyld, don't make me turn on you. We humans have a greater capacity for empathy. Most of the time we sure as hell don't show it, but it's there.

There are certain choices that I make and others that are made for me. Not particularly proud of that but I'm not gonna -blam!- out of admitting it.

It's the whole issue about the meat industry that pushes the violence and cruelty overboard. If there wasn't such a high demand in meat production, I'd probably not be cutting back on it either.

We also have the largest capacity to care. We sure as hell don't show that.
The capacity in itself is irrelevent.

Hardly. The capacity makes us stand out from every other species. It's that capacity which forms our very personalities. Some are far more caring than others, but they will still limit what they care about. Someone who cares about cute and fluffy animals, and the deep feelings and emotions that some really feel, might not care much for the endless hunting of fish. To some, the sight of a fish speared by a... spear, is too much to handle. To others, it's totally normal, and they don't care.

Every human is hugely different, and that's what sets us apart from other animals. The fact that some choose not to eat meat, while others are totally for it, is pure evidence of that. As long as there are two people on the planet, there will be mixed opinions and arguments. Fact.

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.

Your ignorant, if you don't realize; 1. Humans are more empathetic, and caring than any other species on the planet. 2. Your common serial killer has more empathy than most animals.

A biological inability to eat meat, or a lack of a means to attack, isn't indicitive of altrusim.

Most animals, have little ability to understand what other animals, feel, or think. And almost universally characteristics of animals caring for one another, are instinctual. Out of maternal instincts, or pack instincts.

You will scarcely find an animal species, that will knowingly endure even modest hunger, so that another animal on the verge of dieing from starvation, can eat.

Thats not to say, we don't often fall short of our potential. Thats not to demean the human cruelty that does exist. But your being hyberbolic. You can be disgusted at human cruelty, without convincing yourself, humans are the worst species to ever walk the earth.

You're*
I didn't say we weren't.
And 'your common serial kiiler' is more than likely a psychopath, meaning he/she has absolutely no empathy at all.

A biological inability to eat meat, or a lack of a means to attack, isn't indicitive of altrusim.
Not necessarily, but it makes anything else unnecessary.

My family have kept animals all our lives. I can say with complete confidence that that is false.

You will scarcely find an animal species, that will knowingly endure even modest hunger, so that another animal on the verge of dieing from starvation, can eat.
True, although animals have no complex language, therefore you cannot be certain they would if they could accurately communicate. The same would be true of two people of differing languages.

I want to see this argument unfold, so I won't add anything, but I'll just comment on this.

When you see someone resorting to correcting their opponent's grammar, you know they are losing the argument.

I'm a grammar -blam!-. 4 years of English study kinda rubbed off on me.
Pointing out grammatical mistakes is merely education.

Look lads, this isn't going to go anywhere. No-one will convince the other that they are right, because everyone sticks by their opinion. Just settle in the knowledge that people eat what they want to eat. I mean, some people eat disgusting things like grubs. To them, it's totally fine. To us, it's not. Get over the fact that you're "attempting to save animals" because you're one person in several billion, and you're not going to change anything at all aside from your own personal lifestyle.

Not necessarily, but it makes anything else unnecessary.

That statement is meaningless fluff and you know it. You might as well have said "but if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it..."

My family have kept animals all our lives. I can say with complete confidence that that is false.

Oh really? I grew up with dogs and cats alike, and all of my friends did as well, and I have never, ever seen any dogs or cats showing anything other than basic instinctual bonds.

True, although animals have no complex language, therefore you cannot be certain they would if they could accurately communicate. The same would be true of two people of differing languages.

Anyone can look at an emaciated beggar and realize he's starving, and offer him their meal out of sympathy. Animals will chow down on their food until they decide they're done, even if there's an emaciated animal right next to them longingly eyeing their food. Lack of communication is part of what separates us from animals, but it's not the only reason.

If you choose to eat meat, at least know what the meat industry does to the world and to the animals, and to us.

This is what has really surprised me.

People are so hooked on their food, that they can't even admit that it's wrong in this day and age (with science allowing us to not need to eat meat). They just say, "It's subjective" so that if they think it's wrong it doesn't matter.

And then I'm the bad guy, because I tell you it's wrong, which fair enough, nobody likes it when someone forces an opinion down your throat (pardon the pun), but is being intrusive worse than you killing animals for enjoyment?

People prefer to go with the flow than go against the sadistic gluttony of modern society.
