Actual Fact: Eating meat, and thus gaining the protein strain needed to develop dexterity and brain matter and centers made your ancestors more capable of critical thought. Its because your ancestors ate meat that you're cognate enough to question the morality of eating meat.

Actual Fact: Vegans have, on average, higher IQ levels than those who eat meat.

It's nature. Deal with it.

Or should we protect the poor antelopes in Africa from getting mauled by lions? It's so sad and cruel!

nope its nature

Meat is good. I tried eating just fruits and vegetables and ended up feeling thin, weak, and always tired.

Then you're not doing it right.
Wyldfyre, get out. I've seen you in these types of threads, all you do is flame meat eaters.

Maybe because Wyldfyre actually knows what he's talking about?
He says were not natural meat eaters, that's enough to infer he does not know what he's talking about.

Debatable... I eat meat but I see a lot of conflicting "facts" in this thread as well as on the internet.

Really, if an animal is not capable of metacognition and self-awareness, there is no difference between the animal and a plant and a rock.

And you know with complete and absolute certainty that animals don't 'think'?

Either way, it's still a living, breathing, 'intelligent' creature with a personality.

Actual Fact: Most of the worlds population are meat eaters and naturally will have a lower average because of varying degrees of intelligence and higher numbers.

Humans are omnivores - ie they can eat meat and veg. They have teeth which can cut (incisors), pierce and tear (canines), chew (molars). Some people are more naturally inclined towards vegetarianism, some thrive on eating almost all meat. The comment someone made about salmonella - salmonella are bacteria which can live on all kinds of surfaces not just meat. Humans (and animals) build up immunity from bacteria like salmonella, listeria and staphylococcus simply by picking it up from the myriad different ways these bacteria can pass around, hence warnings are only issued for pregnant women, elderly, babies and people with immuno-deficient illnesses, because almost every normal adult has their own built-up immunity. Only when you pick up a large 'community' of these bacteria does it make you ill. The current trend to kill off all bacteria known to mankind on every surface of your environment does no favours as it removes the chance for the human body to produce its own antibodies, so then when you finally do eat that slightly old egg or badly re-heated pizza you will go down like a ton of bricks. Having said all this, I have been vegetarian for 27 yrs and recently have introduced some meat and fish in my diet with no ill effect. But I still prefer veg!
http://www.blurtit.com/q798725.html

We have lost immunity for bacteria found in raw meat because we hardly eat it raw anymore. It's not the meat itself, it's the bacteria and possible parasites in it.

1. and do you advocate eating plant based products without garnishes?
2. we are evolved to eat meat. our teeth are designed for cutting into it (canines / incisors), our stomachs contain pepsin, an enzyme which breaks down proteins, and the squirt of enzymes in the pancreas also contain protein breakers.
3. that was supposed to be a poem? song lyric? regardless, it is total crap.

Can you eat meat raw and stay healthy?
Yes.

But it's very hard to digest.
Still no response.

Wouldn't such a statement imply "on average"? Also, I don't see how such a data point could lead one to any reliable thesis or conclusion. Unless one was willing to make a leap.

My understanding is that Veganism is a conscious choice based on ethical and rational reasons. So, it seems reasonable that a subset of the population that is separated from the norm based on a conscious, rational and ethical choice would then be more rational and likely to consider such elements than the mean of the sample.

There is absolutely no reason why we should eat meat from an evolutionary or 'natural' perspective either. Our bodies are not designed to.
Because your canine teeth and incisors were built around chewing plants.

I'm having steak tonight. Gonna be tasty.

Meat-eaters: have claws
Herbivores: no claws
Humans: no claws

Meat-eaters: have no skin pores and perspire through the tongue
Herbivores: perspire through skin pores
Humans: perspire through skin pores

Meat-eaters: have sharp front teeth for tearing, with no flat molar teeth for grinding
Herbivores: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding
Humans: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding

Meat-eaters: have intestinal tract that is only 3 times their body length so that rapidly decaying meat can pass through quickly
Herbivores: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.
Humans: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.

Meat-eaters: have strong hydrochloric acid in stomach to digest meat
Herbivores: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater
Humans: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater

Meat-eaters: salivary glands in mouth not needed to pre-digest grains and fruits.
Herbivores: well-developed salivary glands which are necessary to pre-digest grains and fruits
Humans: well-developed salivary glands, which are necessary to pre-digest, grains and fruits

Meat-eaters: have acid saliva with no enzyme ptyalin to pre-digest grains
Herbivores: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains
Humans: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains
Based on a chart by A.D. Andrews, Fit Food for Men, (Chicago: American Hygiene Society, 1970)

No, our teeth are not designed for eating meat, they can barely chew through cooked meat, and if we were carnivorous, they should be able to tear through it raw, with ease, like other carnivores.
your forgetting omnivores (who eat both meat and vegetables) which most people are. Don't leave something important out because it goes against what you are saying

To be totally, utterly and brutally honest I really don't care about animals in the slightest. These beasts do little other than eat, walk around and mate. The only useful thing a chicken can do for me is lay me an egg or die to feed me.

Call me heartless, but the way I see it herbivores have little else to do but complete the ecosystem and die for omnivores and carnivores.

I don't really care for the apparent emotional side of it either. Provided these animals die a quick death and have a life that isn't intentionally tortuous I couldn't care less.

To put it in more simple terms I see certain animals as little more than a crop to harvest. If vegetarians could show me a plant that tastes exactly like chicken, takes up the same or less space and is easy to harvest then I'll hop over and eat it over chicken. As it is it's far cheaper, easier and more practical to just eat animals.

I eat meat purely because it's the best option. I don't eat it purely for the fact I want to have some kind of sense of killing something, nor do I eat it just because it's meat. I don't have any illogical liking for meat, I don't eat it to spite vegetarians and vegans, as I have said it's just the easiest and cheapest option.

I don't care about death in the slightest, billions of animals have died over the Earths's cycle. Who are vegetarians to define life anyway? What's the difference between the crops they're killing and the animals being killed? If it's just a matter of "intelligence" then is it fine to kill chickens but not dolphins?

I'm starting to get good at typing up rages in a few minutes...

'above nature' okay sure, tell that to those who lost their homes in katrina. the the people living on the streets after the earthquake in haiti, or the stranded passengers after the icelandic valcano, or those who lost loved ones in the tsunami in indonesia.
we're just as much a part of nature as a rock in the woods or the clouds in the sky.

No they don't. Pull more statistics out of your ass while you then continue to not refute my actual points. Diet has no bearing on IQ provided the diet supplies the appropriate amount of nutrients and protein. There are millions of other factors that go into determining environmental intelligence.

Its militaristic buffoons like you who give veggies a bad name. Come off yourself, and learn to accept other people even thought hey might disagree with you.

Heifer whines could be human cries
Closer comes the screaming knife
This beautiful creature must die
This beautiful creature must die
A death for no reason
And death for no reason is MURDER

And the flesh you so fancifully fry
Is not succulent, tasty or kind
It's death for no reason
And death for no reason is MURDER

And the calf that you carve with a smile
It is MURDER
And the turkey you festively slice
It is MURDER
Do you know how animals die?

Kitchen aromas aren't very homely
It's not "comforting", cheery or kind
It's sizzling blood and the unholy stench
Of MURDER

It's not "natural", "normal" or kind
The flesh you so fancifully fry
The meat in your mouth
As you savour the flavour
Of MURDER

NO, NO, NO, IT'S MURDER
NO, NO, NO, IT'S MURDER
Oh... and who cares about an animals life? ~Anon

As Morrissey once said: "nobody can come up with a good argument for eating animals - nobody can. People as some kind of a joke say, well, 'It's tasty', but it's only tasty once you garnish it and you put salt and pepper, and you cook it, and you have to do 300 things to it to disguise its true taste. If you put garnishes on a chair or fabric, it would probably taste quite nice."

Animals who die for your dinner table die alone, in terror, in sadness and in pain. The killing is merciless and inhumane.

There is absolutely no reason why we should eat meat from an evolutionary or 'natural' perspective either. Our bodies are not designed to.

Just, how do I stop, I suppose you could say I'm addicted.

Dude, without meat you will feel sick, I'm telling you eat only chicken and fish but stopping meat all together without vitamins and eating a crap ton of nuts is very bad for you.
