There is absolutely no reason why we should eat meat from an evolutionary or 'natural' perspective either. Our bodies are not designed to.

Eat meat every day since age 4, still breathing. Problem OP?
If we weren't designed to eat meat, then we wouldn't eat it now would we?

Lol watch this video and tell me that again

If someone said the same thing to you about taking crack cocaine, you'd laugh and laugh in their face.

You just said a very similar thing (not as drastic).

Well, we're all going to die eventually anyway, so I may as well enjoy the food I'm eating. :D

American eating habit. When I went over there, I found the food extremely fatty and oily.

It's a different situation in the rest of the world, bro.

Watch the end of the video. It's a different situation in the world because they don't eat animal based diets.

Take Japan for instance. They are known for having a very vegetarian diet, with the only meat's they eat is fish (not even classed as meat either).

Now check which country lives longest and is known for being the healthiest country in the world. Yes you guessed it, Japan.

Well I can't argue that point with you.

But I'm going to make it safely to death ;)

Think about this: it's okay to kill animals, because it's an instinct. If it's not right to eat animals, what else should we eat?
We could eat plants and -blam-, but that wouldn't help either, because (according to my biology teacher) humans can't survive solely on plants.
Hope this helps.

I respect you the most of everyone in this thread bro.

Whether humans can survive just on plants is one issue, but they can survive without eating meat.

This is proven by the countless numbers of vegetarians and vegans in the world. They get by without meat, so it clearly is possible. And there are many places in the world that do not have a reliable meat source, so they have to eat vegetables. In the past, this was often the case. In the 1800's, vegetables and fruits were the often the only food source in America, but as soon as meat become eaten frequently, a ton of diseases (heart disease and such like) became America's biggest killer, when it was obscure before.

What your biology teacher must be saying, is that we need nutrients that are provided by meat. What he neglects to say, is that these nutrients can be found in other sources of food.

We like our meats, you like your veggies.

Just like religion, you can't force someone to change their religion. It's their choice. If someone wanted to change (or stay), good for 'em.

Can't we just get along already?

"I just can't justify eating meat anymore" is exactly what my regular hooker said, but I totally called her bluff and stuffed my schlong in her mouth.

You've killed it, that's all that matters.

He should stop breeding too many cows.

Yes there is an issue with what we do with the livestock if we aren't going to eat them anymore, but that is just a smaller consequence for the greater good of not killing generations more cows.

im a vegitarian, i started by cutting out one animal out of my diet every 3 months

my family pretty much eat meat and meat only, so its really hard sometimes

the best advice i can give is to really think about WHY you want to become a vegetarian/vegan/pescatarian
if you really think it is wrong, and your feeling 'guilty' about supporting that industrie, then dont..but remember that it dosnt happen overnight

if you just BAM! no meat, your likely to fail ( i found, because i craved it more, when it was gradual i felt more at ease)

well, that just worked for me, i cant justify eating a corpse

JESUS!!!! 1500 REPLIES IN ONE DAY?!?! This guy knows how to make a thread.

  • 12.26.2010 7:17 AM PDT

Wizzy

While you people are arguing, I shall be enjoying roast beef.

Why?

Because I can. Its a natural part of a human diet.

Open your eyes people. We are just animals. Just because we are generally more intelligent than most animals (though this thread has made me question that statement) doesn't change the fact that we are OMNIVORE ANIMALS THAT EATS BOTH MEAT AND PLANTS TO SURVIVE (Think about B12, which comes from animals, even if thats milk and eggs)!!!

Now, to look forward to my roast beef. Mmmmmmmmmm...

Only 3 people in the entire thread have actually answered the main theme question of the OP, which I will re-write for you.

"Is killing and torturing animals simply for the taste morally ok (by your own personal morals)?"

WALL OF TEXT AHEAD: inB4 TLDR - You have been warned

First; I like eating meat. A lot of people do. While we have alternatives it is simply our preference to continue consuming meat.

No, IMO it's not OK to kill and torture animals just for the taste. However...

I find killing animals for only the taste morally fine (though in most cases almost all of the animal can serve some reasonable, productive purpose).
Though, I think people should at least know and respect how the harvesting of an animal benefits us and should maximise the efficiency as so to reduce to amount of animals culled.

I find animal torture immoral (what advantage do meat-eaters stand to gain from torture btw?), however this is useless because the range of opinion on what exactly would be classified as torture would be somewhere near infinite.

Both sides of this argument should realise that this is all a matter of personal choice and morals, and that while both sides may troll, argue and attempt to reason to each other their choices, there will always be individuals that will stand firm with thier beliefs.

You can spam facts, opinions, statements and bull-blam- in some attempt to be superior, but once again the validity of the arguments is dependent on opinion, so enjoy and good luck yelling into the dark void of ignorance called the internet

To the OP: I answered your question. SATISFIED? Also, please don't ask awkward questions like that I'm sure most people even meat eaters -gasp- are not advocates for animal torture. Finally, good luck with giving up meat, enjoy standing up for your beliefs.

PS: This post, just like the 1500 others, are pretty much useless and mundane as they are infinitely disputable.

JUST A REMINDER YOUR ON AN INTERNET FORUM, AN ORGY OF DIVERSITY :P

They are tortured because it is cheaper to torture them in small enclosures and inhumane methods of execution and captivity than not too.

That's the opposite of an awkward question in my opinion, because it's such a simple answer.

But can I ask why you have no problem with killing? (Because it won't be missed by 'friends and family' and once it's dead, it's dead, it can't feel anymore?)

And thanks for being polite with your post :)
