Subject: Is it worth buying H2 for PC

Hey guys, i was planning on buying H2 for PC, but i want to know if it is going to be worth it. Do a good amount of people still play that i would be able to actually get matches? I use to play MLG and do they have the gametypes or do you get BR starts a good amount of the time?

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

If you call maybe 100 people online at any given time a "good amount of people," then yeah. Knock yourself out. The game's noobified gameplay has been carefully preserved as well, so you don't have to worry about silly things like aiming and skill, especially if you're a controller user. A great route to go if you're tired of getting your ass handed to you in PC FPS games where you actually have to be good at FPS to come out on top.

translation: 100 players at peak hours, Halo 2's gameplay is exactly the same, essentially all it is is a different platform. make your own judgement.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I think it is fun...

I got it today but you DEFFINITLY should try getting a controller for it if you decide to buy it....

It is okay but it is a must to play on xbox live...

Of course console gamers would think it's one of the best games ever made. Anything that would make bad players feel like good players is praised on consoles.

Not so much the case with PC games, which is why H2V is a ghost town compared to almost any title.

But hey, if you want a casual's console game pretending to be a PC game, go right on ahead.

That must explain why every thread in the reach and h2 forums is how reach sux and how h2 is somehow better (even though it isn't.) In fact, some h2v kids keep asking me why Custom Ed players aren't flocking to h2v (even though they think it's common sense to play the new game).

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

It's worth it if you think a 50/50 chance of getting it running and on LIVE is a good bet. It's risky.

  • 12.26.2010 8:15 PM PDT

Just got it a few days ago, played it today for the first time on PC and I must say it is really fun...oh the memories!

I am really curious what it is about Halo 2 that affected DusK so bad that a topic about the game cannot go by without his usual shpeel about how the game requires no skill, sucks, nobody plays, etc.

Like something must have happened when this guy played, either he got destroyed so bad by players under criteria he considers "noobie" or "inferior" that he now has this personal grudge against the game lol. He hates on it with this intense passion that makes it so obvious SOMETHING happened. Something so drastic that he can't let it go.

The way he refers to console players as casuals who don't know what a so-called "real" FPS game is makes me think he came into the game expecting counterstrike or something, totally oblivious of the uniqueness of the Halo series and how it plays completely differently from other games and just got messed up. And out of that pent up frustration he vents it out here.

I see a topic about Halo 2 and I know theres going to be a DusK reply mentioning the same things he mentioned in the other 50 Halo 2 topics. It's hilarious lol.

This sums up why. Oh, and the PC port was bad. It's only for hardcore fanboys. That's also why the PC port is mostly an empty dramafest.

lol that explains nothing. This guy's absurd dedication to hating on the game is something else entirely. It's one thing hating on a game.

I can understand being disgruntled about something that let you down or whatnot. It bothers you for a while and then you move on. After the disappointed phase you just don't care about the thing anymore.

But this guy, he goes out of his way nonstop to say the same thing that he already said 50 times. Everyone has heard it before yet he has to repeat it again and again JUST in case one person passing by the forum somehow missed all those other posts. Like it's so frigging amusing!

I'm telling you, something happened to this guy when he played. He even mentions how he hated it on xbox (if he even played it) which means he was never a fan in the first place. So why he gets so worked up over it truly intrigues me so much.

It wouldn't be so bad if it were just Halo 2 being crappy. Plenty of games are just as bad. But because it was the first mainstream console FPS that had online gameplay, it set the standard. And that standard was noobified gameplay that a 6-year-old could pick up and feel like a FPS pro after a couple of hours. And because of this, games got more and more dumbed down on all platforms as time went on, and more and more kids that are actually terrible at FPS started thinking of themselves as gods. Long story short, Halo 2 completely screwed up online console shooter gaming. And unfortunately, it seems to be bleeding onto the PC as of late.

You go onto any Xbox 360 shooter and play on Live for half an hour, and you're guaranteed to run across some kid who constantly talks an incessant amount of crap about being "beast" or some crap despite the fact that he wouldn't be able to get a single kill if the game wasn't holding his hand and doing the hard part for him.

And for the record, Wreckoner, I dominated H2 in the short amount of time I played it. Having just jumped onto the game for the first time EVER a few years back, I was mopping the floor with players level 35 and above. Me, a complete noob to Halo 2 and online console FPS gaming, was able to beat more experienced players easily. That either shows significant skill on my part, a massive lack of skill on their part, severe flaws in gameplay, or some combination of the three.

So essentially, you're right. There was an experience with that game that made me hate it so much. That experience was going on there, completely destroying right off the bat despite never having experience with the game (something you wouldn't be able to even dream of in many other FPS games), and watching it cripple a genre that could have been nothing short of amazing.

DusK hates the gameplay, but I hate the software.
Halo 2 Editing Kit, is a big F U to custom map authors and modders.

The game even has trouble handling 60 FPS in V-sync, wow.

And that's why certain people talk about how halo 2 changed online. It made it n00bier.

As for you, wreckonerH, you should go back to this forum. They have lots of room for blind fanboys like you.

It got 7/10 from gamespot, due to h2 being overrated. And that's not including the glitches.

Bad Company 2 is the same price and is infinitely better. Team Fortress 2 is the same price and is infinitely better. Counter-Strike: Source... you get the idea.

Eh, I have a life. I don't feel like playing video games for 10+ hours a day like those kids in MLG, especially not a casual game like Halo. I prefer to do things that are more productive with my time. Like pursuing higher education.

And given your grasp on the English language, you should consider trying for any education at all.

I just like to keep prospective PC FPS players informed that there are better things they could spend their money on.
