It wouldn't be so bad if it were just Halo 2 being crappy. Plenty of games are just as bad. But because it was the first mainstream console FPS that had online gameplay, it set the standard. And that standard was noobified gameplay that a 6-year-old could pick up and feel like a FPS pro after a couple of hours. And because of this, games got more and more dumbed down on all platforms as time went on, and more and more kids that are actually terrible at FPS started thinking of themselves as gods. Long story short, Halo 2 completely screwed up online console shooter gaming. And unfortunately, it seems to be bleeding onto the PC as of late.
You go onto any Xbox 360 shooter and play on Live for half an hour, and you're guaranteed to run across some kid who constantly talks an incessant amount of crap about being "beast" or some crap despite the fact that he wouldn't be able to get a single kill if the game wasn't holding his hand and doing the hard part for him.
And for the record, Wreckoner, I dominated H2 in the short amount of time I played it. Having just jumped onto the game for the first time EVER a few years back, I was mopping the floor with players level 35 and above. Me, a complete noob to Halo 2 and online console FPS gaming, was able to beat more experienced players easily. That either shows significant skill on my part, a massive lack of skill on their part, severe flaws in gameplay, or some combination of the three.
So essentially, you're right. There was an experience with that game that made me hate it so much. That experience was going on there, completely destroying right off the bat despite never having experience with the game (something you wouldn't be able to even dream of in many other FPS games), and watching it cripple a genre that could have been nothing short of amazing.
You sound just like the kids you are trying to bash. You say you have sooooo much skill and everyone is inferior to you why don't you just go pro if your so good. k pce
