Subject: Is it worth buying H2 for PC

Posted by: Nessy

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

H2v is a horrible port. You can argue about the gameplay of H2 all you want, but the port itself is HORRIBLE. Most troubling is the severe mouse lag and the game's inability to function properly at high frame rates.
The game works with a controller, you even get an aimbot, but it is utter fail on the part of Microsoft/Hired Gun/Bungie to release a PC game that doesn't work right with a mouse.
They already made the game for the console which uses the controller, why release the same game twice?
I wasted 50 bucks on H2v when it was released. Microsoft dissolved Hired Gun, stopped supporting the game, didn't fix anything, and meanwhile the cowards at Bungie act as though it isn't their game or problem.

BUNGIE AND MICROSOFT FAILS HALO 2 VISTA.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

It is worth it. Buy it and you won't regret it.
Halo 2 Vista Multiplayer is much better than the previous one.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

It's been proven with crashing and the broswer. But we will do it even worse.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

You don't have to. Feel free to join that long list of Halo 2oobs that think they're good, though.

You sound just like the kids you are trying to bash. You say you have sooooo much skill and everyone is inferior to you why don't you just go pro if your so good. k pce

Eh, I have a life. I don't feel like playing video games for 10+ hours a day like those kids in MLG, especially not a casual game like Halo. I prefer to do things that are more productive with my time. Like pursuing higher education.

And given your grasp on the English language, you should consider trying for any education at all.

Again a douche with the "me got life" -blam!- yet incapable of realising there are other languages then English and even dialects. And halo 2 is a competitive game you idiot.

On topic : the game sucks on pc but that's because hired gun made the pc version (not gearbox, who made halo ce for pc). If gearbox made halo 2' s pc version, it would have been a lot better.

Ha! If Gearbox ported it, you kids wouldn't be playing it because there would be no aim assist for controllers.

You can keep pretending that H2 was a competitive game, though. Delusions are good, right?

H2 on xbox was competitive.

H2 pc is bad. All casuals. Fun to play for a little while but its a mess.

What a terrible video. First comment - The increased autoaim was needed to offset dealing with the lag that comes from playing in an online environment.

You can't really compare the two games because one was strictly LAN and the other had online multiplayer. Since H1 was LAN mp there was never lag. You could play H1 on xbc, but it was really horrible and you had to aim a foot in front or behind targets to get kills. H2 was made to play online and to even the playing field bungie added larger hitboxes and increased auto aim to help even out players with varying connection speeds.

That did slightly lower the skill gap but didn't completely noobify the game. Good players were still good players. Watch Phurion or Walshy's montages and tell me H2 was not competetive.

I got Halo 2 for pc for £5 and for that price its awsome.
I give it a miss due to Vista and knowing win 7 was around the courner.
Anyhow in responce to issues, for me I got no lag at all, maxed settings on everything aa set to full etc. Thing is the game hasnt aged well for graphices, eith the exception to the player models, which I think may be the prettiest and best of all the halo games, including reach. Just the devs didnt update the map textures as well and that is what lets the game down and made it score low review scores. Yet after playing thre it this week. I was really enjoying it, some of the set piece sections where updated, the scarab for example, they really upped the polly count on that and it shows. Hell I would say it looks better from ground level than it does in reach.

As a modder for many, many years. Halo 2 is a good start for learning the basics of modding. Normally if I do a campign for l4d2 or a level in crycis, it can take me weeks. I found rather than weeks it was a few days. For example you will find optimising a map in halo2 for pc is pretty easy, in fact since it can support some really large maps yould be suprised at what you can do. Keep in mind though it is a very old engine and features you take for granted in the unreal or source engine simply arnt there. In fact I would say if you want to learn how to map, Halo is actually very good for this. Though I havent seen any tutorials about but I picked it all up pretty much right away.

Guess what else has lag that comes from playing in an online environment? Every PC FPS that you can play online. Guess what doesn't need aim assist to compensate? Every PC FPS that you can play online.

There is absolutely no need to add aim assist or large hitboxes to make up for latency; All that is required is decent netcode and network hit detection. Your excuse is flawed by example, and you wouldn't be giving that excuse if you've ever played an online FPS that doesn't have those crutches. And there are plenty.

So if there's no need to noobify the game to make up for "the lag that comes from playing in an online environment," why did they do it?

That did slightly lower the skill gap but didn't completely noobify the game. Good players were still good players. Watch Phurion or Walshy's montages and tell me H2 was not competetive.

MLG is a joke. They take the most casual games they can find, skewer them past recognition, and try to pass them off as competitive. MLG has yet to incorporate a truly skill-based game into its "pro circuit."

I've seen these "pros" play, and they lean on the crutches I referred to, the very same ones you're defending. Throw those ladies on Halo PC and stick 'em in a KNFr server, and they'd get mauled and ragequit. It's a whole 'nother dance when the game stops doing most of the work for you.

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

Halo 2 for the PC has a pretty dull multiplayer of just casual gamers, if I were you I'd just play the old xbox version of Halo 2 on xlink kai or xbox connect. At least on there its more competitive then on the Vista version.

The Vista version lacks some of the old glitches we come to love on the xbox version. It also lacks a co-op feature for campaign, so you can't play campaign together with a friend. On the bright side Halo 2 vista's live is free now, so you don't have to worry about having a gold membership to play online.

It wouldn't be so bad if it were just Halo 2 being crappy. Plenty of games are just as bad. But because it was the first mainstream console FPS that had online gameplay, it set the standard. And that standard was noobified gameplay that a 6-year-old could pick up and feel like a FPS pro after a couple of hours. And because of this, games got more and more dumbed down on all platforms as time went on, and more and more kids that are actually terrible at FPS started thinking of themselves as gods. Long story short, Halo 2 completely screwed up online console shooter gaming. And unfortunately, it seems to be bleeding onto the PC as of late.

You go onto any Xbox 360 shooter and play on Live for half an hour, and you're guaranteed to run across some kid who constantly talks an incessant amount of crap about being "beast" or some crap despite the fact that he wouldn't be able to get a single kill if the game wasn't holding his hand and doing the hard part for him.

And for the record, Wreckoner, I dominated H2 in the short amount of time I played it. Having just jumped onto the game for the first time EVER a few years back, I was mopping the floor with players level 35 and above. Me, a complete noob to Halo 2 and online console FPS gaming, was able to beat more experienced players easily. That either shows significant skill on my part, a massive lack of skill on their part, severe flaws in gameplay, or some combination of the three.

So essentially, you're right. There was an experience with that game that made me hate it so much. That experience was going on there, completely destroying right off the bat despite never having experience with the game (something you wouldn't be able to even dream of in many other FPS games), and watching it cripple a genre that could have been nothing short of amazing.

If console gamin is so noobified, why are your H3 stats so bad?

That's like asking a college basketball player why he never competes in the Special Olympics. Playing HPC competently takes so much more than getting a 50 in that joke of a ranking system H3 has. Hell, I only went to 31 cause I got bored before I got to 50. Went back to HPC. I don't like to spend too much time on worthless things.

Speaking of which, how's those Special Olympics workin' out for ya?

What a terrible video. First comment - The increased autoaim was needed to offset dealing with the lag that comes from playing in an online environment.

CS 1.6 = No Autoaim
Halo PC = No Autoaim
CoD4 (PC version, not xbox) = No Autoaim
Bad Company 2 = No Autoaim
Unreal 99 = No Autoaim
Half Life = No Autoaim
Any good PC game = No Autoaim
Good netcode is for offsetting lag, not autoaim.

Halo PC had online, and it was fun. It was improved from the xbox version, with more weapons, shees and rocket hogs in MP, and even real custom map support. And unlike h2, it didn't have n00b aim.

That did slightly lower the skill gap but didn't completely noobify the game. Good players were still good players. Watch Phurion or Walshy's montages and tell me H2 was not competetive.

Oh right, their MLG morons. You know, the kind who play n00b games like h2 and think their good at fps games. Anyone can do those in h2, you don't need skill. Half the shots were far away when you slow it down and look past the n00by editing. In walshys video, I saw some hitboxes.

Halo 2 vista is way worth getting, what it lost in popularity was made up in gameplay and custom maps, along with other features.

it only costs $20 which is the same price as halo 1 for pc but halo 2 vista is worth way more so just get halo 2 vista.

Halo 1 is better. Halo 2 has crappier gameplay, crappier custom maps, crappier population (which is a dramafest), and crappier system requirements.

Oh, and for $20, I can get TF2, Bad Company 2, CS: Source, and for $30 I can get CoD4 PC. All better games.

Console games =/= pc games. Stop making this a Console vs PC argument. Comparing the two makes no sense. Network problems were one reason, another reason is that the twin stick configuration isn't as accurate as a mouse and keyboard.

Yeah they probably would cause being professional console gamers they probably don't play mouse + keyboard. Once again, your comparison is invalid. You'd get stomped in a console LAN match against them in H2, does that mean pc gamers are bad? No because thats a stupid argument.

N00b games like SC2 right? Cause thats on the MLG circuit, but you probably wouldn't know. You probably didn't notice the double and quad shots walshy was pulling off. Also, let me stop you before you say button glitches are for n00bs, and pretend that pulling off a 8 button combo consistently against other pro players is easy.

TF2, UT3, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield: 1942 have no aim assist on the 360, work perfectly well without it, and say hi.

They can use a controller if they want. They'd still get rocked, though. Hell, if it were possible to give em HX's aim assist, they'd still get rocked.
