I enjoyed oni. It had interesting level design, a good sense of humour, a very different control style and an action leading female character that was not about breast size (more on this later). Sure the controls were difficult to master, and some of the moves we complex, but that is part of why it was a good game. How many action games give you the choice of ways to complete a level? How many games give you choices as to the way the game will end. Oni has 2 endings, and that is awesome!
As people said, it was not nearly as polished as it could have been, and bungie had to cut multiplayer :(. Still, the game had style, solid gameplay and a interesting weapon set. I would love to see oni revisited, or at least other games picking up that style of game (Ninja gaiden and prince of persia come close).
Side rant:
I like bungie because they treat the game market as if they are mature. They respond to their fans, they use their games as a vehicle to tell quality stories and they don't feel they need to bolster their games feature set with simple gimmicks like focusing only on graphics, trying to market to angsty teens or trying to use sex as a way of drawing customers. Sure, the game industry is broad and and there is scope for many styles of games, but the game industry as seem to still be marketing games as they were 15 years ago. Bungie are different :)
