With most microsoft products they are able to give you a new serial number given the two product numbers written on the disc. The guy on the phone told me that he was not able to generate a new serial number because Halo: CE is an "obsolete software." However, the guy on customer support told me it was possible.

Can they generate serials from the product numbers written on the discs for older games or was this guy correct?

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Kind of a tough question for anyone not working at MS. Probably tough for some people who do, too, considering how their answers differ.

Halo PC is EOL, not supported, and you'll probably just have to keep calling until you get the right person who's willing to go the extra mile to help you out.

they told me the game was retired and couldn't recover mine. I was trying to do it for the halo reach nameplate

Good players work together...and no matter how good you are, you're not physic. - blade6321

They generated a new H2 Vista key for me about 6 months back. I would call back a few times and see if you could get someone to do this. I honestly don't know why they would discontinue a key generator. Not like it takes up space on anyone's harddrive.

Here are the links to Microsoft's crappy Support Lifecycle for
Halo 1 PC
Halo 2 Vista
and proof that these games are not important to them.

Halo 1 PC's support has ended with both development and customer services.
Halo 2 Vista's support has only ended on the development, but not customer services
