The forerunners were studying the flood on the Halo rings correct? Now as we all know, the flood can communicate with other flood over extremely long distances through various techniques, including pheromones, and some kind of esp ability, which if I had to guess was some kind of Em sign al.

So here is my question.

Seeing as the flood could communicate with each other and draw other flood towards them, wouldn't having flood on the rings be a huge security risk? I mean, during the Flood/Forerunner War, the flood could have easily captured a halo ring, and stopped it from firing if they knew where it was, so why did the Forerunners do this?

So you heard I slayed a Balrog?

To attempt to answer your question could be much like trying to understand the way the ancient Greeks resolved reality through titans.

Perhaps if we would expect the Forerunner to be the technological behemoths the cannon permits we could formulate an explanation; From the Bestiarum we can conclude they knew of a level of existence (Tier 0: Transsentient) capable of accelerating the evolution of intelligent life. The Forerunner were more technologically advanced than the hegemony that worships their science as a Covenant.

And Thirdly when the rings fired the effective volume of:

7 arrays * 4(PI)/3 * (25,000 LY * 9,460,730,472,580.8 km/LY)^3

= 3.3879544032 * 10^53 km^3

Conclusion: Since the Halo Array left an enormous void of sentience it could be beneficial to isolate the virus...
By 2552 about 100,000 years had elapsed and the only place Flood existed was within the installations.

Worst case scenario: the Flood breached security and jumped technological tier.

My long question: What happened to the rest of the maw that not even the Forerunner could endure?
