ok so in halo 2 they r forced to work together to save each other rite? but no, helping each other to survive does not help... in halo 3 Master Chief puts a gun to his head... and arbiter still calls him demon. though in the end i guess they r friends or "comrades". so y do they hate each other in the beginning?

Inside another dead body. It's the last place they'll look
A corpse within a corpse.

At the beginning of Halo 3 (IIRC), only the Arbiter was allied with humanity, along with some of the upper echelons of the Sangheili military. Chief, having been fighting off combined Sangheili and Brute-led forces aboard the Dreadnought (see Uprising), would not have known this.

The Elites in their entirety only allied with the Humans once the Flood-infested ship jumped to Earth, and realised they had to stop Truth at the Ark.

...And so the hero crawled through the fissure on the surface of Tyr. There, the lone Dwarf stared into the cold, dark eyes of Soulblighter...The fiend hefted his blade over his shoulder as a flock of raven took upon his form...

In my opinion, it's sort of like an ever lasting hatred. The Covenant viewed Spartans as demons because of their intense strength and power.

Think of it like this, say in World War II a new threat arose and for whatever reason the the Allied powers decided to ally with the Axis. Of course if you saw Hitler or a German soldier you know you have to work together but there is a hatred and bitterness between you two because of opposing views/beliefs.

It's a classic little device found in a lot of shows/movies where good and evil have to team up together. Remember that episode when Pikachu was handcuffed to Meowth in Pokemon and they had to work together to stay alive? Haha :)

the fact is that arbiter never called chief a demon in halo 3. It was always "spartan", it pays off to listen to all the dialogue.
And at the beginning, chief put a gun under arbiter's chin because he he didn't know about the new alliance that the humans and elites had. So (you) seeing a cloaked elite would give the same reaction if you were him.

i thought the covenant deemed him a demon because he threatened their religion. and a hate is hard to destroy once instilled.

Except the Chief never actually talked to the Arbiter, as far as I can remember. Seemed a bit rude to me, to be honest.

Chief had been fighting elites on the dreadnought when arbiter allied with the humans. he had no idea until he came to earth.

Well you noticed a lot of aggression between the Master Chief and the Arbiter in the beginning on Halo 3. That's because the Chief has been fighting against the Elites for many years, and he lost many Spartans because of Elites.

I highly doubt there were any elites on the dreadnought. First of all, the rise of the brutes came before truth entered the dreadnought, and the great schism (elites vs covenant war) happened before the dreadnought fled, so it's all brutes.

this is the answer, good way to look at it sparty boy. i believe, out of all the spartans, john was the most likely to forge an alliance to fight a common enemy. he thought of it tactically, not emotionally.
