I understand why you don't, but comeon! Can't you trust these people to post within guidelines? It would add a much nicer feel to the forums too, cause we could have images in our sigs, too.

Here's a nice quote as to why this won't happen:

I know for certain that in the first 100 images linked/upload for a signature, someone will link a giant 1600x1200 resolution photo of some kind of inappropriate image, if not that individual's own ass.

Now... after being here for a year (and lurking even longer) I know for a fact that there are people who would abuse this right. It's better not to take such a risk because you can hardly trust anybody now-a-days.

I've been to the RvB forums and image sigs are a bad idea. it makes the place ridiculously cluttered and its a lot harder to read what the people are actually saying

once again, I know why not, but there are advantages to this sort of thing. And obviously they have automatic blockers, so size wouldnt be a problem, and yes, i see the whole content problem. But still... Images could help, and we all know links dont work too well (editing problems) and they can be just as annoying. Actualy posting the image would save time, even if an image had to be checked before being posted.

What advantages? What's so hard about just posting a link, instead of forcing people with slow internet to load what would be massive images? People that are interested will click on the link, so long as you describe/explain it appropriatly.

And it's already hard enough to scroll back to the top of the page without having to go past huge pictures of peoples' behinds.

Of course size can be restricted, but content is the biggest problem. That's about 96% of the problem.

The difference between posting a link and posting a picture directly are dramatically spaced. A link you can click on at your own will while a picture posted is content you are almost forced to see in a way.

For example: You may be looking through a thread at the moment. Some spammer thinks it's funny to post bad websites and lie about them. You hover your cursor over the link and know what it is ahead of time so you don't click on it. You avoided seeing something at your own will. Now if it was a picture that was actually posted right in the thread, blam! You just got a very disturbing and unpleasant surprise that you didn't expect.

A big multi-colored image signature is not going to blend well with the layout of the forums. Where, as it is now, everything is smooth.

They have automatic blockers in phpbb and invision, what makes you think they have them here?

Also, checking images of any sort (avatars, avataras, etc.) would take waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time, there's hundreds of thousands of members on this forum, it's just too much work for any person or persons to do.

Kinda reminds me of the whole groupjoin.aspx problem we had awhile back.

Ah. I remember that Tub Girl incident a while back. Nasty stuff, the Ninjas really had their work cut out for them. But now, thankfully, they've got the 24 hour post restrictions and whatnot, so hopefully we'll never have to go through that again.

I am sure they do IP ban.

A few days ago I was on a 7-day blacklist, so I tried to make a new account (naughty naughty). Even though I reset Safari and emptied the cache, when I got to the end (you click "submit") it said "Sorry, a blamdotnet exception has occured". It wouldnt let me make a new account. Which in hindsight is a good thing.

I've noticed, because I've seen almost none of it since! You guys do good work, and deserve many thanks for it. It's those people who are the reason why Bungie.net can never allow users to post images.

The thing with IP bans is IP addresses change. Some users with a dial-up internet connection have a different IP address every time they connect, so IP bans are quite easily circumvented.

Dynamic IPs aren't limited to only people with Dial-up connections. Users with broadband can change IP addresses easily. IP bans just aren't the way to go.

With so many people abuseing the guidlines we give them. We couldn't trust them with anything more. Just ask the mods how many people did they have to kick. You'll get the picture why there is no pictures.

If bungie ever enables images I do have a camera capable of taking very high resolution pictures of my ass. I promise to do it in 24 bit uncompressed bitmap format just out of protest. I don't care whether or not someone will abuse it, but pictures on forums are just annoying. Don't believe me? We'll see what you think when you have loaded like 5 megapixels of hairy nastiness.
