So the downstairs light was burned out so I changed it. Anyone ever wonder why they "burn out"? They don't look burned to me.

Devil is Double is Deuce and Joker always trumps Deuce.

Actually the correct term is Lamp.

It sounds strange to say " I changed a lamp today."

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

To hell with correct terms! Just call them glass semi-spheres of glowiness.

And I'm not sure if I'm right (although, damnit, I should know this!), but they burn out, most likely, because the tungsten (they still use it, don't they?) in the incandescent glass semi-spheres of glowiness gets burned up... or melted... vaporized... liquidated.... one of those colorful little terms.

Did you check how many much power it uses?

Doesn't anyone else think this should be a case study for Greenpeace?

Can the mods move this to a Greenpeace forum?

(Let's see how many posts we get before someone actually tries to be helpful)

So, it does take only one idiot to screw in a lightbulb.
jk
Actually the reason they burn out is that the filament breaks.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

You are absolutely correct! We do still use it, although we will run out in 40 years. And I think it vaporizes.

One more thing- I challenge you to make a lightbulb glow when the glass is broken. I bet you $100 that you can't do it.

Glow is a lot different from lighting up.

I sir, accept your bet.

(Just don't expect any results)

You cant make it work because it needs a vacuum for the filament to work in. No globe, no glow.

you could put clingflim around it maybe that way you could presevre your vacuum and also see your glow, but it could melt or not even work!

Bulbs break from the constant turning on and off of them- every time they are turned on they heat up and expand, then cool and return to their normal size when turned off. After a large amound to being turned on/off the filament is weakened by constant expansion and deexpansion, and eventually it breaks as it tries to expand on time too many. I think. I'm not a lightbulb expert or anything though......

i think that most of the time the thing in the glass semi-spheres of glowiness just gets the ends burnt and detaches, but you're corect.
