To hell with correct terms! Just call them glass semi-spheres of glowiness.
And I'm not sure if I'm right (although, damnit, I should know this!), but they burn out, most likely, because the tungsten (they still use it, don't they?) in the incandescent glass semi-spheres of glowiness gets burned up... or melted... vaporized... liquidated.... one of those colorful little terms.
You are absolutely correct! We do still use it, although we will run out in 40 years. And I think it vaporizes.
One more thing- I challenge you to make a lightbulb glow when the glass is broken. I bet you $100 that you can't do it.
atach a battery to the glass semi-spheres of glowiness, break the glass, stick the glass semi-spheres of glowiness and battery in a glass jar, put a lit match in, and put the lid on the jar, wait for the flame to die, and the light bulb will be on.^_^ cus see, the fillement in the glass semi-spheres of glowiness will only glow in a vacume.^_^
