In 2552, Africa is super-urbanized, as we see from New Alexandria an other cities. So I have one question:

Do already-modern cities like New York reach a plateau and stop advancing while other cities catch up to them, or do they advance equally and become mega-cities more built up than anything we can imagine today and even more built up than cities like New Alexandria?

Ya, if you read contact harvest Chicago takes up most of the midwest, or at least spans into the surrounding states. not to mention all of IL.

Well, in Contact Harvest, Chicago is described as a massive urban sprawl covering much of Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana.

I imagine NYC would have spread out in much the same way, spreading to cover much of New York New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Possible even merging with Philadelphia and Pittsburg to become a giant megalopolis.

It already has, or the northeastern corridor already has become one big megalopolis. I'd imagine population would just get denser and parts would probably become genuine archologies.

I think NYC would stretch out all across Long Island, it only goes to Queens County today. Being a resident of the city I can tell you it is quickly absorbing Nassau County and will creep into Suffolk soon. At this pace, in 2552 I'd say from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh would all be absorbed into New York City.

Contact Harvest tells us Chicago spans three states. It's not a stretch to assume that NYC would cover Long Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and merge with Boston is Massachusetts. Possibly even Delaware and Maryland at the pace it's growing.

There's already a swathe of city stretching from Boston to Baltimore/D.C.. That includes all of New Jersey & Delaware, Philly, and New York. It's just not seen yet as one city. If our ancestors could see it, they'd call it a mega city. The suburbs are that built up now. We also break up the parts along old, pre-existing state and county lines. If New York ever has the political might it had when Manhatten annexed Brooklyn again, they could easily make it all one big city as it is now

UWG Great group, you should check it out.

This is a really interesting thought. I like the theory of it growing into kind of a territory like Chicago did, and at the same time the actual city would grow upwards.

I like how people in this topic believe Chicago is the only possible city that can grow. Or that the second American Civil War couldn't possibly have an effect on the North American landscape, despite it effectively ending America as an entity.

No, sorry guys. Clearly -only- Chicago can grow.

Valiant men have died here so we don't have to, so let's get the hell out.

What is this second American Civil War people keep talking about? Which book was that mentioned in?

They mention; "The first American civil war" in one of the books, can't remember which. This implies there was a second war somewhere later down the line. Nothing is known about it I'm pretty sure though.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

Most likely, the much of the Eastern seaboard is one city. Same with the Western seaboard, Texas, and Chicago.

My rough idea.

I wonder what Siberia, Western China, and Central Australia would look like in the Halo timeline... most likely massive urban developments or just massive centralized cities. But eviornmentalists today would not like the ideas of those areas being developed so I couldn't image what lengths environmentalists would go to to halt human growth in the future. (Shivers)

With the population rising as fast as it is, I doubt they'll be able to do anything much longer.

The United Republic of North America as being composed of Canada, Mexico, and "the political remnants of the United States," suggesting a dissolution of the Union.[3]

Additionally, in his report on Admiral Preston Cole, Codename: SURGEON makes reference to the Battle of Gettysburg, which he describes as taking place during "the first American Civil War."[4] This wording strongly suggests that there was in fact at least one more civil conflict, which may or may not have resulted in the dissolution of the Union. It is important to note that the word "first" is not capitalized, indicating that it is not the formal name of the war (unlike, for example the First World War). Therefore, if a second civil conflict did take place, it would almost certainly go by a name other than the "Second American Civil War."

At some point, America destroys or destabilizes itself. What remains merges with Canada and Mexico and forms the North American Republic.

Further, its theorized that the UN HQ is located within New York, as the current UN HQ is in New York. UNSC Supreme Command, as its called, is confirmed to be in America somewhere.

That's ought to happen eventually, considering how the three countries interact with each other in the present time.
