Subject: Halo 2 Xbox LIVE update? on 1/1/2011

I just went to play some Campaign on Halo 2, when I tried to sign in to Xbox Live (I know it is shutdown) when I got a update. I did not understand what it was for, so I downloaded it, and nothing really happened.

I was hoping something good would happen, but nothing, anyone got a clue what the update is about? Thanks.

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

When was the last time you booted up Halo 2 OP? (before today).

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

They didn't take off the tu servers, only the game servers.

Last time was since August 2010, I did not sign in to LIVE though, I just play Campaign form time to time.

I understand they shut down Original Xbox LIVE, but what are you saying Jacob?

Xbox live consisted of several servers. One for authencation, one for title updates, one for DLC, and a bunch for master lists/matchmaking for most games. The Auth server was set up to block incoming Xbox 1 connections after the shutdown, and all the master servers were taken down. Oh, and master servers also shared the same servers, running as different instances. How do I know?

We hope you enjoyed yesterday's in-game heat wave, but it's come to a close now that you guys have totally dephlogisticated the server farm. So thoroughly, in fact, that we're going to retire our dear old Halo 3 servers today and move the game onto the brand spankin' new Reach-generation servers (well, the ones you got to pound on during the Beta.) During this migration, we're going to take the file share offline, and new stats won't show up until we're done (but will show up eventually.) There aren't any new features tied to this work (nor will any old ones go away), but just like the way that Halo 2 lived out its retirement years in a quiet corner of the Halo 3 servers, we're going to give Halo 3 and ODST's backend features a chance to settle into their new digs on our fresh hardware that's so powerful it won't bat an eye at the extra load. The alternative would have us be like a slug leaving a slime trail of old servers in our wake as we push forward into the territory of new games, and while it's true that most things do go better with slime, we've found from experience that servers are that rare exception.

The h2 servers are gone. It's offical. There's no chance of your magical Uncle/friends uncle/cousin/dog putting the servers back up. The Title Update servers aren't down (since they are probably shared with the 360), so you can still get h2 1.5.

what about other ways, like XBC, with no master servers no play, and with the blocking connection to Orignal LIVE, it will not connect? Or did the people who made XBC had this in mind and found a way around? Or does XBC just make servers from your house?

Pretty much your pc is hosting it. Like H1 PC.

Your PC routes the packets through the XBC/Kai server to simulate system link.

Those are the stats servers owned by Bungie. They have nothing to do with playing the game over LIVE.

Even if they have nothing to do with them, MS has final say. They aren't coming up. Trying to nuke their headquarters will not make them change.
