I will be getting a new computer for Christmas and I was eyeing the Crossfire and an X850XT PE as my GPUs (I know I'll be needing PCIE). I checked around and from what I hear they are compatible with each other, but I just want confirmation. Also, what bonuses will this give rather than just a single X850XT PE?

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

First of all, does your motherboard support two video cards?

I'll be getting a new motherboard, and yes, it will be able to support two graphics cards.

Ok. Here is an overview of the crossfire setup.

I'd get an X1800XT or XL, instead. True, it's maybe $150 more than an X850XT PE, but it will be far better in the long run. How? Spend the money to get just one X1800XT or XL now, and then when you have enough money, get another down the line.

The thing is, this is what a lot of people did with SLI.They just got dual 6600GT's to be proud of the fact that they had dual video cards - except they weren't as good as one 6800 Ultra, and they cost the same. So what? so those that just bought one 6800 Ultra got another a few months later, a viola - a much faster pc. Those with dual 6600GT's, many of them, sold them off on ebay and then bought the better cards.

Just have patience and get one X1800XT or XL. Trust me, you'll be happier in a year.

On to your main question - it will allow around a 75% increase in performance. I think that a crossfire setup is supposed to have a bigger performance gain than a SLI setup, but that's all theoretical right now.

Which is better, X1800XT or XL?

The X1800XT is by-far better than the XL version.

In benchmarks, the XL couldn't keep pace with the 7800 GT.

But the XT passed the 7800 GTX.

Yep, the XL isn't as good of a card, but it's up there. The XT is a beast, and for only having 16 pipelines, it's amazing that it can surpass the GT and remain close behind the GTX.

I think that ZipZoomFly has three different models of the X1800XT. Heh, they're so hard to get that not even Newegg has them in stock, yet.
