CoD is a good game, even if the Halo series are better in some aspects. Anyone who insults either is just bad in that game. Grow up.

I don't get it, Jorge is always being told the answers to stupid questions by Carter as if he is the rookie of the team. If anything Jorge should be the leader of Noble team as he is; the oldest, strongest, most military experience, most likely to come out alive from a battle, yet Carter and Kat are both higher ranked. Did Bungie ever give a reason to why a spartan 2 is with a group of spartan 3s?

Carter and Kat are the only two left of the original Noble team and Carter was already the leader. If you look at real marines, the biggest and strongest soldiers aren't usually the leaders.

I don't think that's his point. Jorge, as a Spartan II, was portrayed very poorly in the game. Jorge is definitely bigger and stronger than Carter, but that's not the only difference; all Spartan IIs have superior combat experience and more strategic training in comparison to their Spartan III counterparts.

Spartan IIs were supposed to be tactical geniuses, unlike the "big but slow (in terms of intelligence)" brawns that the majority of halo players seem to believe. Jorge should never have been the way he was in Halo: Reach if we were to go by Spartan II's description in the novels. Bungie just fked up/didn't give a crap.

What I have never understood is 1 their armor and 2 why they were their to begin with. in the book GoO it says the spartan III's only had SPI armor witch did not make them stronger did not have shields had a active camo that only worked part of the time and was not as tough as the spartan II armor.
Also if I remember correctly the spartan III's were only used when the conditions for spartan II's were to ridiculous and expensive. They would send hundred hundreds of spartan III's and only one or two would survive if even that.

they were not valued like the spartan II's and had a larger pool for candidates. and if you don't believe me read Ghosts of Onyx

Thanks for the discussion. I thought this thread died. Glad to know I will be able to update it.

The reason I think these lines are out of character or un-Spartan-like is because they could be replaced with the most generic marine and it would be no better or worse. There were some great lines in the game that embodied how I envisioned the Spartans before Reach from Nylund's books, but the cons outweighed the pros in my opinion.

Also, contributors, please give me some context and the character who said it. "Naked" quotes aren't very useful.

If Master Chief didn't say it, it's not Spartan-like.

In addition, I don't think they had to be silent like the MC, but when they did talk, they said foolish things.

MOAR MOAR!!!

Anyway I want to add to the Jorge discussion. I was mad when Jorge said, "Mom" to Halsey. Halsey then replied, "That'll be all Jorge."

He's sooo pushed around in that game, he's portrayed as a complete childish wimp. He's like a puppy, I don't think Bungie portrayed him the right way at all. He's like Lennie from "Of Mice and Men". That's not good, not good at all. He's soo different from the Master Chief, it's ridiculous. They're both Spartan-II's with the same training and everything.

:'(

Um, he actually said "Ma'am". I thought he said mom too at first, but the subtitles set me straight. It's just his accent. But I agree otherwise.

You are correct in what you remember. However, Kurt and Mendez extracted some members of Alpha and Beta generations who had the same genetic parameters as the S2 candidates prior to their big suicidal pushes. These superior S3's were the equals of the S2's, and given actual MJOLNIR and used like regular Spartans.

I can link you to the article, hosted here on Bungie, that explains it.

The most common argument is usually the following:

Most of Noble Team was consisted of Spartan 3's, who were complete different from the Spartan 2's, so therefore judging them on their lines isn't fair.
I'll start by saying I have read the Ghosts of Onyx, Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike.

I realize that the Spartan 3's were not as disciplined and objective as their predecessors. But many of the quotes I do have are from Jorge, a Spartan 2. It's not even about being pushed around, it's more so that Jorge doesn't know what the hell is going on half the time. He asks rookie questions to a 32 year old Spartan 3.

Jorge should have embodied what Spartan 2's are. Unfortunately, they seemed to have contorted the Spartans to appeal to a mass audience.

I played the game through with subtitles, and I thought he said "mom" too but I looked and apparently he says "ma'am" but his accent messes it up.

All the Spartans are different people if they were all alike and had the same attitudes towards everything you might as well have a hundred master chiefs running around.

Uh...I noticed ones that I thought were odd, but they weren't those. That's just character and prior knowledge.

If we can be talking about any Halo game, then [insert Johnson quote here] bcuz teeeechnically, he's a spartan I

There's a fundamental difference. The Spartan I's were subjects in relatively later parts of their lives, not at the age of five, being abducted, and having surgical procedures done on them. The Spartans weren't social creatures. The only family they had was their fellow Spartans, and the only relationships they almost built was to good commanding officers and Dr. Halsey. The Spartan 3's just seemed like ordinary soldiers in this game.

  • 01.06.2011 7:57 PM PDT

Beware the smiley face! =D

You could argue that the eccentric or corny nature of some of the Spartans dialogue is down to whats happened to them - as they have had a completely different life to any normal person their personalities can easily be very different. Not to mention that their idea of social skills could be altered by how they grew up under the Spartan program, making a line that sounds innapropriate to us sound perfect for the situation to them.

There are lots of "un-spartan-like" lines, but I think you are going a bit overboard. Lots of Spartan's have different personalities so there is some leeway.

The main offenders are Kat and Emile though. Emile's tough guy attitude and stupid face paint are the worst. Kat's retard savy electronic banter is worse.

Jorge's line "It's the damn covenant" might be the worst.

Though Emile's "This valley just became a live fire area" is terrible too.

I like the Mk V armor.

Jorge is just in denial his homeplanet is in danger. He doesn't want to loose Reach. You can see, what's the threat is known to be the Covenant, he gets much moe strong willed, and pissed.

He's a SPARTAN, but he still has emotions. So do all of them. Except for Six. Because everyone mixed together makes a blank character.

I would agree exept for his lack of emotion when they showed up. His "its the damn covenant" really shows nothing at all.
He is just boring. And his death was unbelievably forced. Oh the thing won't detonate unless he does it manually. Why? Screw you audiance, its a cliche now, we can do what we want.

Accurate description of every member of Noble Team.

  • 01.06.2011 11:46 PM PDT

On the whole Jorge staying behind thing. Wouldn't Jorge have had Noble 6 stay behind and light up the slipspace drive instead of himself? Weren't the S3s more expendable and made for that kind of thing?

On the quote thing...
Jorge and the girl that whole thing is... odd, for a spartan.

Nothing to do with your close-minded interpretation, no doubt.
