Silly question I know.

I find it's weird that the forerunner chose Homosapien's to give the Mantle to. If they indeed did.

ALSO, did the Librarian know that she was on the planet of the once-space traveling Humans of the Human-Forerunner war? And all she's doing is talking to her pen pal and remarking on how purdyful and fertile the land of earth is?

All shall be made clear with Greg Bear's books.

And I am going to assume that yes they knew exactly what they were doing.

To be fair that gets revealed in the first chapter.

Not during the forerunner-human war, the flood-forerunner war.

Surely alot of time has passed, and the librarian seemed to think there was something special about humanity.

The question is, why would they make their exiles their heirs?

As I said we really can't know the answer to they're change of heart till the new books are in our hands.

However I suspect that the Librarian's late discovery about us was the kicker.

This may be answered in the two chapters, but here it goes anyway:
Are we sure humans are originally from Earth, or do we just assume that Earth is our homeworld because the Forerunners devolved and exiled us to Earth?

  • 01.03.2011 2:48 AM PDT

To be honest, when I first saw all this in the weekly update I thought 2 things.
#1- there is an actual legendary ending but,
#2- No matter what anyone does,(kill all the bobs, hit all switches etc) that until the "time" mentioned in "There'll be another time..." is reached there won't be a legendary ending.

The weekly update by bungie has slowed my hardcore search for what unlocks the legendary ending.

I will be directing you guys to these forums for inside information on this subject.

And why did you think that the forerunners fought the humans? They fought the Flood. The Forerunners treasured the humans.

About 50/60,000 years before the Flood showed up, humanity was once an advanced race at war with the Forerunners. To put it shortly, we lost and the Forerunner sent us back to the Stone Age - we were pretty much detested by them around that time.

This should of been obvious to you that the Forerunners, over the course of the Flood War, would have a change of heart. How that happens we don't know yet.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

Yes they knew about it. Didact remembered seeing as he fought the war. The Council remembered, even the new members of the council knew about it when the older ones were ousted. I'm pretty sure it was common knowledge but just wasn't talked about on a regular basis. Humans were just another species that the Forerunner had to deal with on their way to populating over 3 million worlds.

However the Flood was not known about by all Forerunner until the war began.

I think that the Forerunners (or just the Librarian) understood how dedicated and powerful Humans can become, as they fought off the Flood and the Forerunner at the same time. Humanity also made a "cure" to the Flood, and they were able to access the Precusor prisoner, something that even the Didact was impressed with. With that in mind, I think the Librarian "gave" the Mantle to the Humans knowing that the would rise to power thousands of years after the fall of the Forerunners, and that they would be the best choice to inherit the Forerunners duties.

I thought that it simply meant that the forerunners used a more ancient version of human DNA to repopulate earth.

I wonder if John was imprinted with a geas during his time of activating the light bridge, knowing what button to hit even though he had never seen that technology before.

I think the other two books will answer a lot of questions. Because I have a bunch of questions too...
