Subject: Who would win? Rtas' or Cole?

If it's based on quantity of Warships, Rtas. Remember Cole needed twice as ships or even more, to defeat the Covenant at the battle of Harvest due to the technological diferences.
At Harvest, Cole outnumbered the Covenant 40 to 1. He lost one third of his ships. His brilliant tactical maneuver consisted of a brute charge towards the lone covenant ship while firing every missile and MAC gun aboard the fleet simultaneously. At Alpha Aurigae and XI Boötis, he outnumbered the Covenant 9 to 1, losing 34% and 43% of his ships respectively. At the Great Bear, he outnumbered the Covenant 6 to 1 and lost two thirds of his fleet.

Cole didn't lose a single battle because he always made sure he outnumbered the enemy, with help from CENTCOM, which was willing to grant his every wish for more ships.

Cole really isn't any good. At least Rtas' has the ability to win from a situation where he's outnumbered 3-1 by covenant ships.

On even scale of technology or quantity of warships?

If they were even on scale of technology, I would go for Cole.

Yeah, but don't forget that was basically the first time the battle against the Covenant.

Cole would win in 2540s/2550s. In fact it showed in 2540s and 2550s that humans were starting to win in space against the Covenant.

No soldier should be honored for doing what is expected

If both were given a single -blam!- of equivialent classes, e.g. Corvettes, I think Rtas would win because of the sheer technological advantage he'd have over Cole.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Rtas, hands down.

- Better ship.
- Loyal crew.
- Superior weapons and shields.
- Boarding craft.
- The guy wiped out an entire Covenant fleet above the Ark when outnumbered 3 to 1.
- Generally a greater amount of badassery compared to Cole.

It's stated that humanity will only win if they outnumber the Covenant at least 3 to 1. Rtas smashed those odds above the Ark against a superior fleet.

Last time I checked Rtas wasn't facing against an Elite controlled fleet, and Cole had an even match, a bit outnumbered by the Covenant and still suffering light-to-medium casualties in the Battle of Psi Serpentis.

Halo is one of the most important part of my life.

For me Cole, remember, even the tech from covies is lame against a very good strategy and Cole teach us that, he managed to destroy a bunch of ships against all odd.

Cole all the way, since at the end of 'The Impossible Life and Possible Death of Preston Cole' the Everest (already a formidable ship, with ~two MAC, god knows how many archer missiles and thick armour) was packing over one hundred thermonuclear missiles. don't see that ending well for an assault carrier, sure it might slice into the Everest and cripple her, but not before the carrier is vapourised. plus Cole is the be all and end all tactician, unbeaten in battle.

How many of those Shivas can be fired at once though? Do not forget about the Point Defence lasers that the Assault Carrier will have. Cole also had to greatly outnumber his opponents to win, and usually suffered staggering losses. Would the battle of Psi Serpentis have gone as well as it did had there been no Gas Giant to ignite?

The Everest is prone to be gutted by Plasma Torpedoes on the first hit. The Assault carrier has the combination of a shielding system and an effective point defence system.

To be honest, when I first saw all this in the weekly update I thought 2 things.
#1- there is an actual legendary ending but,
#2- No matter what anyone does,(kill all the bobs, hit all switches etc) that until the "time" mentioned in "There'll be another time..." is reached there won't be a legendary ending.

The weekly update by bungie has slowed my hardcore search for what unlocks the legendary ending.

I can't vote. I love Cole to death and Rtas' has my respect.
Even then, Keyes will destroy you with the Keyes' loop

Everest vs Shadow of Intent would be a draw. Assault carriers have those super thin beams that can slice through three ships at once (see Halo: The Fall of Reach). Those beams fire at light speed and Rtas is good enough to fire straight at the reactor core, destroying the ship outright. However, the Everest would have enough time to launch all her nukes before being taken out.

Since those nukes are self guided, they would hit the Shadow of Intent eventually, unless Rtas made a quick slipspace jump out of the system, and thus Rtas could escape unharmed. I'm not sure how long it takes to prime a slipspace jump though, that's why I'm calling it a tie.

Back.. and to the left.
Back.. and to the left.
Back.. and to the left.
Back.. and to the left.
Back.. and to the left.
Back.. and to the left.
Back.. and to the left.

I think Cole would either win or find a way to retreat.. somehow!

"Time was your ally human. But now it has abandoned you. The Forerunners....have returned. And this tomb... is now yours". - The Didact

Cole won't beat Rtas.

A single assault carrier got hundreds of pulse lasers,a single salvo from the hundreds of shivas would be intercepted by lasers before one would even hit.

Archer missiles can barely damage a covenant shield.

MAC's can easily be dodged at long range, read ghosts of onyx.

It just takes one salvo plasma torpedos to blow Cole into oblivion.

The only commanders who ever beat a foe that outnumbered them were Rtas,Keyes and offensive bias.

Please don't talk about psi serpentis, that was just a gas giant that went to a micronova.

Rtas wins this with the head of Cole as a trophy.
