What rank is required to be in charge of a ODST Platoon that uses Scorpion tanks?

Gunnery Sergeant? or Higher rank? (I'm doing a web-comic fan-based halo story and i need some research, help?)

What a waste....

Mickey was a Private.

Message me if you want, I will try to get back as soon as possible.

See you on the forums and in the games.

There are no age or gender restrictions as long as the candidate meets the physical and mental requirements they are guaranteed the opportunity to try out for the ODSTs.

Above was taken from Halo Wiki, so I'd say choose a rank.

And I doubt there is a difference for driving a tank, if you are trained to use a tank, that's what you will be in more than likely.

No offense, just read what I wrote: What RANK do you need, not to become an ODST but to lead an ODST platoon.

Silva was a Major, but my guess is a Captain.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

I knew an 0352 Sergeant in the USMC who was in charge of a group of A.T. HUMVEES. By the look of him, he was a couple steps above his fellow Sergeants and was only at his rank because he had not been in the Corps long enough at that time.

I'd go with Staff Sergeant (E-6). I suppose the minimum could be a Sergeant, but I doubt that it's common.

If there is no age limit, I would assume no rank limit is required, that's just my opinion.

Those are two different things, you can't just put a private odst in charge of a platoon. (Unless all are privates, then you pick the most experienced one, not just randomly).

Do ODSTs use Scorpion tanks??

  • 01.03.2011 10:28 PM PDT

We believe that the universe is unbounded: this is not the same as infinite: the 2-D surface of a sphere, wrapped around a 3rd dimension, has a finite size, but has no end. If you start off in a given direction on the surface of a sphere, you could return to your start point without having to turn around -- you simply go all the way around. But wouldn't that mean the universe has an escape velocity like the earth?

That was Mickey, not the Rookie. He's only a Private First Class, according to the wiki, but then he wasn't leading other ODST's in that part, only Marines.

Out of curiosity, what's your comic about?

Mickey wasn't in command of a tank battalion.

OT: I figure a Major. Gunnery Sergeant is (IIRC) a Navy rank referring to Shipboard weapons.

I always figured Mickey was in the tank due to them being in a tough situation. I didn't think there were ODST squads that used Scorpions as standard.

I'm not sure ODSTs have armored platoons, since they focus on rapid deployment.

However, Halo's rank system seems to be based on modern U.S. Marine ranks. From what I've read, a platoon is the smallest unit to be commanded by a commissioned officer, usually a lieutenant. He is assisted by the platoon sergeant. The squads that make up the platoon are commanded by either sergeants or corporals.

There's a great book, "A Civilian's Guide to the U.S. Military" that helps untangle military organization, including ranks.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

That depends.

If there is 1 ODST and x amount of Marines, the ODST would be in charge.

If there is 1 ODST and x amount of Marines, but if 1 or more of those are a high-ranking officer (Gunnery Sergeant and up or Lieutenant and up) then he would be second in command or lower.

If it is a squad of ODST than the leader of the squad.

The usual commander of a platoon-sized anything would be a lieutenant.

That being said, Gunnery Sergeant Buck is in command of "the squad" before it is assumed by Captain Dare. Smaller than a platoon, but I don't think anybody cares all that much.

There is a large difference of size there. By regular definition, a 'platoon' can be anywhere between 40 and 70 soldiers. The Squad is just 6-strong. Seems perfectly reasonable to me that a 'Gunny' is in charge of a small team like that.
