how the -blam!- did the forerunners beat the precursors? their tier 0 compared to the forerunners tier 1.

Imagine you had a gun, and were fighting Dinosaurs (because why the hell not?) Sure, you'd kill a bunch of them with your gun, but eventually you'd run out of ammo and their numbers would overwhelm you.

That amazing analogy can be applied to the situation, if true.

Don't think so. I almost done with the book, and the Human-Flood part is true. There was also more than 7 Halos, which shocked me because of the whole Bungie-7 thing.

In fact, Mendicant Bias took a Halo into slip space, but never returned. The Didact was also exiled for a thousands years at one point. If I am remembering correctly, there have been 12 Halos or so.

Quote: "The flood first arrived from one of the Magellanic clouds of stars that drift just outside of our galaxy. Its precise origin unknown. Its first effects upon human systems in the far reaches if our arm of the galaxy were subtle, even benign- so it seemed."

Also, this part is hard to explain, but some Flood came from powder found on ancient star ships. The powder was used on some pets, and improved their domestic behavior. Then they were mutated by it. The plague happened first to humans, then San'Shyuum.

How did the Forerunners beat (DESTROY, actually) the Precursors? Well...

I do not know. I only know they did this because of the last little lines of the book, which say:

"We meet again, young one. I am the last of those who gave you breath and shape and form, millions of years ago. I am the last of those your kind rose up against and ruthlessly destroyed . I am the last Precursor. And our answer is at hand."

Can you say cliffhanger?

Wait, the San'Shyuum? The Prophets? They were interstellar 100,000 years ago too?

Yup. Here are some things which surprised me:

Quote: "...Then they allied with the San'Shyuum, combined their knowledge, and created weapons against which my warriors had little defense."

So, Forerunners battled the San'Shyuum also. Forerunners devasated the SS and Humans. However, they made a pact with SS, and not humans.

Edit: Just read a very unexpected event in the book. Humanity discovered a CURE for the Flood. They counter-infected the Flood with a destructive set of programmed genes.

This...Is just too much....

I kinda wish I never read it, and kept everything a mystery.

But I am also very curious :(

Guess the Forerunners weren't as kind as we once thought...

Any explanation as to why the Forerunners wanted to destroy the Precursors?

I must say, this truly destroys many original thoughts and stories of the past, with this new found knowledge. Almost like when the Covenant's Religion was destroyed when they realized their truth...

I'm about a quarter way through, I looked at the back and it's around 350 pages. Actually, I think it is 343. Funny.

It became clear to me halfway through this book that the 'Captive' is the Gravemind... and the Gravemind is a Precursor.

And if what I said above is true the Captive becoming part of the Flood may be what makes them so unbeatable.
