you are a good translatorIdiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.
In my renewed vigor in the Halo Universe, I'm going to write a Forerunner Fan-Fiction. Most of this stuff is rampant speculation based on the terminals and will likely be retconned by Cryptum, but I decided to give it a shot.
--------------
"Something is wrong! It's moving away! At night I can see itflitting shadowsblack against the stars. Thousands of ships! Not spiraling outward, but heading for the line! This is the tipping point, Didact. It's no longer feeding. It's coming for you."
"Your end has come."
The human aboard the Ascendency, Didact's flagship, looked at him with weary eyes. It was only a matter of time. It had consumed all other life elsewhere in the galaxy, yet its ravaging hunger was not sated. Not until it took him as well. He was all that stood before them.
"You are fortunate, how the ignorance of those unevolved left on earth will be left uncherished. The weight of this burden must be ours. She will ensure their safety. Her unyielding love for your kind shall see them preserved. I am grateful of your presence Legate Thallasius. Our kind has had no sympathy for yours. Consider this last act of service, the preservation of humanity, repentance for our sins."
The human nodded his cleanly shaven face, his helmeted head bowed.
"My warriors and I will stand by your side until the very fabrics of Hell open and drag us in."
Didact placed his hand on the Legate's shoulder. The Librarian would keep her promise. Her love of humanity surpassed her love for him. He now had one thing to live for, wisely detaching herself from a madman. He would commit himself entirely to the safety of all organic life in the millennia to come. For her sake and his, she detached herself. Each would contribute to the continuity of life from this unholy menace.
The Flood.
"They come," the Legate said as he gazed into the reaches of the space encompassing the Maginot Sphere, a shield world built to shield life from whatever the universe itself could muster. It projected rings of temporal energy that arced across space to deter the Flood threat, yet it seemed that the inner possessions of Forerunner space were all that was left for the Flood to consume. Blue sparks jumped across space. Thousands of putrid ships, covered in rotting organic matter slid across the pristine beauty of the twisting nebulae excited by the Maginot Line's defenses.
More ruptures tore open. There were millions of ships, all defiled by the presence of the Flood.
"Let them. I shall not be so quick to run.
Didact inhaled deeply, drawing up an unparalleled level of concentration. His silver robes fluttered as the energy created by him stirred. He telepathically connected with his grand admirals, in command of the defense fleet.
"Move to intercept the small ones, use your point defenses. If you are boarded and cannot repel them, lower your shielding. Sacrifice yourselves and allow others to destroy you."
30,000 Forerunner battleships accelerated, their golden engines ignited and propelled them forward.
The Ascendancy followed suit. The dreadnaught-class Keyship was one of the most powerful weapons the forerunners possessed.
"Legate, defend this ship and secure your worthiness."
The Legate nodded, and placed his hand on his sword. Its edge pulsed with energy as he drew it, his cloak flowed revealing golden armor plating over top elaborate clothing.
"To our dying breath, God."
Didact was the closest thing to a god life had achieved. His 100,000 years of being the leader of the Forerunners granted him the insight on almost any situation. He was the victor of many battles, from humanity to beyond. He had conquered countless worlds; he created life, and ended it. He was omnipotent.
Yet not on this day. For the first time in his memory, he was unsure of what exactly to do. He understood that no God may rule forever. The end of everything he created was here. It encroached upon him around his last line of defense. He saw from the observation deck. He counted five million ships.
The smaller ships, yachts, luxury liners moved towards the defenses. They bubbled and exploded outward into molten fragments as they attempted to breach the sphere. Didact knew they would overload the defenses if enough passed. However he had time to hold the line and organize his fleet.
A presence stung his psyche. The inside of his skull burned and he fell to his knees.
"What takes you millennia to create, I erase in seconds."
Its voice echoed with unnatural malice, in unison with that of another. An engineer squealed and attempted to assist Didact. His agonized face looked up to see one final slipspace rupture tear through the fabric of space. It was a keyship, pristine and free of any Flood infection.
"No!"
The Sphere would only disengage if a Keyship passed through it. And that's what he brought. He knew, and he would do anything to unravel his former master's creation. He challenged Didact's power.
It was Mendicant Bias, and his keyship was tangled in electrical bolts as it overloaded the defense line.
"Now the gates have been unlatched."
Mendicant Bias taunted Didact. He would not fall for his banter.
Didact stood, and regained his composure. He could not let Mendicant corrupt his mind and steal his thoughts. He severed his ability to telepathically communicate with others. It took every ounce of will inside of him, and a stream of visions flashed before him, billions of them.
For a moment, he felt mortal. Yet, at the same time invincible. He would be the only one to challenge Bias. His fall from grace would meet a swift end here. The humans called him Lucifer. What he is named is now irrelevant; all he was now was a threat that was to be ended like any other.
Didact took command of his ship and met the Flood with his fellow Forerunners, thirty thousand against five million.
