NTW-20

Halo 3 Sniper

I only noticed this now. Halo 3's Sniper looks a lot like the South African NTW-20mm. It even has the same handle/scope guard and use the same 14.5mm round.

The only major difference i can see is the location of the magazine, but I'm no gun expert so I wouldn't know much. What do you think?

Don't hate... ...loathe.

The NTW-20 image is not viewable.

Halo is one of the most important part of my life.

NTW-20 image fixed...and you are rigth it looks the same, its a new gun maked by the africans. No joke there.

Thats right Cowboy... its me

You are correct sir...nice find, except that Bungie seems to have fixed that very british looking 90 degree angle clip to a proper vertical clip.

Forgive my terminology if incorrect.

Inside another dead body. It's the last place they'll look
A corpse within a corpse.
CORPSEPTION.
Win.

Most heavy rifle designs will look very similar. Granted, that does bear the most similarity of any rifle design to the Halo Sniper.

However, one of the lead designers of CE said after Halo was released that he was worried Fabrique Nationale of Belgium were going to sue Bungie for 'stealing' the design of the FN2000, because they looked so similar. He claimed to have not even heard of the gun until after CE's release.
The same thing happened here.

Off-topic: Isn't that the Sniper Rifle used to knock out the mini-mech at the end of District 9?

Why yes, yes it is.

On topic: There are a few other differences besides the clip location.
1. The NTW-20 holds 3 rounds compared to Halo's 4
2. The muzzle brake is different
3. The stalk is different
4. Different Stalk
5. Halo's sniper rifle has a handle behind the bipod

Aesthetically, it is remarkably similar.
Even more so, to a layperson.

Interestingly, the NTW was manufactured in a 14.5x114mm variant - identical calibre to that of the Halo series of Sniper Rifles.

Major fact aside from horizontal clip though is that the NTW is bolt-action versus the SRS-99's gas-operated semi-auto system.
What interests me is how the NTW is bolt action and high calibre, and yet not bullpup in design, like the M95. If the overall weapon length was kept the exact same, the round could reach higher velocities and from that: longer range, higher accuracy and greater impact damage. If they used the same barrel and moved it back with the magazine, the weapon's overall length would be shortened, making it easier to carry and set up.
