When Halo 2 was online in the regular xbox days (when the 360 didn't exist), could updates/patches be possible? If so, why didn't Bungie patch the super bounces and glitches like BXR?

Halo 2 for Life!

Patch the two very important features of Halo 2...

I'm not following your logic...

Anyways if I remember correctly they said they were limited in their ability to patch things and so only "fixed" sword lunging and made it harder to stand-bye. I dis-agreed and still do with the removal of the sword flying glitch (they should have left it in for customs). They also did a few little things but you'll have to look through the archive of weekly updates to get at them.

Why do you care?

Anyway, yes they did make patches for Xbox 1 games, but what you're asking wouldn't have been as easy as it sounds. Superjumps were actually issues with "cracks" in the maps where players could fall through the map, and then be shot back out. If I'm not mistaken, it's impossible to fix map geometry after the game's release. The cracks were fixed in the PC version to eliminate superjumps.

As for button glitches, it's tough to say. MLG used them and Bungie and MLG have a pretty good relationship (the actual companies, not the communities). If Bungie had removed the button combos from online play, pros (Actual paid pros) would no longer be able to practice online and would have had to use XBC which was not always a viable option for pros who were in college at the time.

IMO, button glitches were one of the best parts of the game. The Halo 2 BR was really easy to use, so things like the Double Shot really changed the skill gap for the better. Some toolbags did cheat and use modded controllers to perform glitches, but it still doesn't take away from the legitimate competitiveness of them.

I knew the could patch the game, but I didn't know to what extent. I also know how fun these exploits are to use in custom games, but they are unfair in MM. Even if there was a banning system for such behavior.

Only superjumps were unfair, and those couldn't be fixed. Button combos were absolutely fair.

Even if there was a banning system for such behavior. There was. If enough people left feedback on your tag for cheating, action might have been taken depending on what you were actually doing.

*sigh* IMO BXR is unfair due to having an advantage over most people that didn't know about the exploit. I already know that there is a banning system since I have played Halo 2 online, but you misunderstood what I meant by even if.

Well, I'm no game programmer, but I think the patches for Halo 2 to fix the superjump glitch seemed impossible at the time due to old tech.

Maybe if Microsuck didn't shut down the Original Xbox server, Bungie would have probably been able to fix it now.

As much as a fun game Halo 2 is, it still has a few problems which I believe were corrected for Halo 3 so these problems wouldn't come back.

Again I'm no programmer, but the super-jump glitch must have been a big issue that the developers couldn't do much.

Edit: Then yet again Bungie did release a patch to improve the meeling system of Halo 2 and maybe that variable in the patch created the super-jump glitch, this is only my guess.

Ah, I see what you meant with the "even if there was a banning system" now, my bad.

Onto the topic issue, saying BXR was unfair is like saying Callouts are unfair. Not EVERYONE knows them, but anyone who spends a little bit of time with the game and manages to get some skill will learn about them.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

They should have patched this

My understanding was that if they tried to patch the bounces it would have broken other things in the game because of how the in game code was written.

As far as the button combo's go, there was no patch because of how the game mechanics worked. Everything the button combo's did was meant to happen, just not in that way.

Let there be CHAOS!

Superbounces could not be patched because it was a glitch in that version of Havok, the physics system. Not too much Bungie could've done about that. (Halo 2 PC's superbounces are fixed because it uses a newer version of Havok)

As for button combos, I honestly don't know why they didn't fix them. Seems like it would be pretty simple. Just add in a delay for certain actions? I dunno, it was a little complicated. Apparently the PAL version of Halo 2 was incapable of button combos due to different timings or something. For Halo 2 PC though, there is no excuse for button combos still working other than laziness.

With enough effort, they probably could have fixed both of these on Xbox, but I don't think they thought it was worth their time.

I think its out in the pal version due to the different refresh rate. PAL can work in 50hz (PSX/N64 and older) or 60hz(DC and newer), while NTSC and NTSC J games run in 60HZ
