In one of the books (I think it was FS) they say that the covenant are imitative, so...

At the end of the HALO2 demo movie, the elites drop in pods... Could this be a mimic of our ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Troop) deployment pods?

AND

In the latest OXM they mention a new covenant weapon called a carbine that is projectile based. The Covenant have only used plasma weaponry until now. This has to be a weapon that was copied from human tech.

Any thoughts...

bah

I do believe that the Covenant may be imitating us, although one could easily argue that they only imitate the Forerunner. Imitating us could be a form of blasphemy.

  • 05.07.2004 12:39 PM PDT

It's certainly possible, the Covenant have been fighting the Humans for some 20-odd years. You'd think that they would copy at least some of the Human's superior ground technology.

Yea no projectiles, I guess the needler fires delcious cookies of doom. Really, pay attention all the facts before you say something, and yes, they do look like copies of the drop pods.

One weapon they have is projectile, but it is not a penetrating projectile as the humans have. It sticks and explodes... there is a difference

"pay attention all the facts before you say something"

Not in any particular sense is there a difference. A projectile weapon can do a jig on your head to kill you, it's still a projectile weapon.

The Plasma rifle is considered a projectile weapon then?

maybe they are, but it's just a taste of our own medicine, I mean look at MJOLINR armor, based on the elites, and Spartan II based on Spartan warriors in ancient times.

what is this carbine going to do. is it similar to a rocket or more like a bullet ? And Oppiten is right !

  • 05.07.2004 12:52 PM PDT

bah

Don't start flaming. I believe the word you are looking for is non-propelled projectile. Bullets are non-propelled. The needler fires propelled projectiles. Plasma weapons are non-projectile because they fire energy.

If you think about it, the cannon weapons (projectiles that travelled at the speed of light and tore through the ship) that the Covenant flagship used at Reach may very well be an imitation of MAC cannons. They had never seen the Covenant use this technology before, so it's more than possible.

It's probably, going to be a carbine. Similar to the M-1 Gerand of WW-II only better.

It's the imitation of the battle riffle, but in the halo mods it sends a full round of a needler in a split second. but is an instant kill.

How shure are you that the MJOLINR armor was based off the elites. The covenant belive that the MJOLINR armor is more advanced then theirs.

Yes, the drop pods look like they were copied from the Humans. As for the weapons, anything shot or thrown is a projectile, so you can't say they copied them. For example if I throw a rock at someone crossing the street, they would get hit by a "projectile", usually they would call it a rock, but it is referred to as a projectile.

It IS better than theirs, and it says in the book it's based of it, with better human improvments. YES people it is possible to have technology better than the covenate in some departments.

In "The Fall Of Reach", Dr. Halsey explains how she modified JACKAL shields for the MJOLNIR armour. They had never seen Elites at that point in time.
