Humans are in the process of copying covenant weapons...In FS cortana finds a better way to harness the electromagnetics (spelling?), and make their plasma cannons more efficient...

And that was the last straw.
Curses! I had a beautiful stern repremand all written up. It would have made the flamers shrivel with fear! Now I can't use it. :(

Well, reload needs, health depelation, and ammo in general were probably turned off for the e3 demo.

This thread is messed,

The carbine is basically a miniature version of the flagship laser / lazer. The flagship in the FoR uses a laser / lazer that travels at the speed of light, (38 mph through sodium something) no, I mean the real speed of light through air. Anyway, this weapon was super powerful and could easily take out ships in seconds, so this weapon must be pretty damn good.
That is what the carbine will be, slightly inaccurate so only for short-med range combat, and if there is a covenant sniper, then I believe it will be based on this tech too, but more accurate for longer ranges.

You are correct. The battle rifle fires over 50 shots without a reload during the whole thing. We know its clip isn't that big.

In the OXM they said the carbine has a sniper scope, and would be used for long range...

But in the demo he reloads the battle rifle at least once (after pegging one of the grunts)

Do you have ANY information to back up anything you just said? You basically just took the definition of a carbine, tossed it out the window, and just made stuff up as you go.

Watch out who you call a kid. You may be 22, but in cyberspace, that means jack squat. I'm 19, but yet here, on this forum, I am older than you. Why? Because the only way to measure someone's age in cyberspace is to view their actions. It's all based on maturity. So prove you're more mature by dropping the insultory comments that keep popping up at the end of your posts.

Oh. Can you recommend a good podiatrist/dentist? I have a foot in my mouth.

I had this great flamebuster written up from before, and I didn't get to use it. I saw this as an opportunity to write another, but didn't read between the lines enough. But my point still applies in the general case. And it most certainly applies to everyone else. *cough*Liton*cough*

I understand. It's a good message to all anyway. As for the carbine. Whatever it is, it will porbably look cool and just get me killed.

I take it you were talking about me,
Remember, this is Halo, and when associated with the Covenant, a word could mean anything. Technically speaking, the plasma rifle cannot be a rifle because it has neither a barrel or rifling in its non-existant barrel.
The 'carbine' will be similar to the BR, but will fire crazy laser / lazer bolts instead of plasma.

Well, a rifle does not need a barrel, a rifle is basically an adjetive.

I think not, this page seems to disagree with you.
Don't get all flamey again, it doesn't really matter. The sensible thing would be to bow out gracefully, but I'm not going to tell you what to do. If you wish to get all upperty about the wording of this post, then please do, I'm going offline for the night now.

No reason to get 'flamy' you're right, I was wrong. All you have to do is present information which is correct, which is what you did.

Okay, first part clarification on an issue then I'll get to the part I wanted to express.

Technically, a carbine is a rifle with a shortened barrel, like the M-4 carbine being a shorter version of the M-16 rifle. The M-4 has a lower muzzle velocity then the M-16, and thus less kinetic energy and penetration. This is due to the length of the barrel. The longer the barrel, the more time the chemical propellant can act up on the projectile being accelerated.

There is no stipulation that a carbine must be physical nor energy.

Another interesting fact is that Covenant weapons ARE projectile weapons- just of a different sort. Chemical Propulsion like gunpowder is only one type or propellant. Other propellants include Air Pressure (Pneumatic Propulsion), springs (Energy Store such as in bows and crossbows) and Magnetic Acceleration. In the case of the Covenant who have mastered the magical anti-gravity, gravitic acceleration also becoems a possibility. Plasma is easily shaped formed and constrained by magnetic fields. Plasma projecting weapons would likely use a magnetic bubble to shape your plasma bolt and use magnetic propulsion to accelerate the plasma bolt in the same manner as a Mag-lev train or a Rail Gun.

In essence, I'm thinking the Covenant Carbine is likely the shortened version of another weapon. I'm thinking that they could have taken their sniper rifle and had it's barrel shortened and been modified for a higher rate of fire. Both these weapons likely to be a "slug" weapon of some sort in the same fashion as bullet as a humans but instead of using chemical propellant they'd use a series of either magnetic or gravitic accelerators along the barrel.

bah

There is also the possibility that the word carbine has nothing to do with the weapon, although I would doubt it since the Halo weaspons naming scheme is an arrurate depiction of the weapons.

The Rip Saw's annoying bold-faced red warning:
There is some flaming going on here. Don't start a flame war. You have been warned by me, and a mod will see that I warned you and count that as a warning anyway.

I know you're trying to be nice and everything, but leave the warnings to us mods. It's best to either alert shishka or myself if you see some nastiness going on. We'll deal with it. WITH THAT SAID - The Rip Saw is correct. Do not turn this fine thread into a flame fest. You don't have to make someone feel stupid because they're wrong.

If you absolutely have to settle your differences with another user, do so behind the private doors of the bungie.net messaging service.
