ODST messed up the story line, ODST happens within hours of the first initial strike upon Earth and the elites have already rebelled and Brutes were already on the ground. In Halo 2 the elites rebelling had happened maybe within a few days of the initial strike and you never saw a brute on Earth granted it may have just been a few select areas where brutes were deployed but in ODST they were everywhere like the elites were in two but the only elites left in ODST are already dead. Something in that magnitude of mass extermination would still take days and then this brings up another question, has Bungie been trying to royally screw up the storyline due to their departure from Microsoft and Microsoft owning the Halo franchise?

Your thoughts please.

Best. Ship. Ever!

Now I don't remember everything so please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the Prophet of Truth was planning to replace the Elites with the Brutes for a while before Halo 2.

It's definitely possible the Brutes were given orders to get rid of the Elites once things calmed down on Earth which they did after Mercy or Regret (I don't remember which) left.

Also it was said in Halo 2 it was a small amount of Covenant that came to attack Earth at first so it's possible the Brutes wiped out the Elites, or at least most of them, by the time the Rookie wakes up.

ODST's campaign may have started after the Elite Insurrection. They never said it was within hours of the initial strike, and if I'm wrong on that, please provide proof or you're wrong.

Everything is cool in Chicago.

You have no rights, play nice!-bungie,
I vow to play nice, how 'bout you?

Its That Easy

you dont know they were killed because the brutes were ordered maybe it was because they had a disagreement and killed each other. this would further cement the theory that the two races have hated each other for awhile.

(correct me if im wrong but i do believe the spikes were in their chests correct)

That would make sense. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Buck ask about a family feud between the two species during the mission Tayari Plaza in ODST?

You are correct, it is implied at the end of First Strike, before Halo 2.

As requested for time proof, the rookie woke up six hours after drop. The elites were dead everywhere when Buck was going to save Dare which was within minutes of Regrets retreat and brutes were there and yes there was spikes in their chests.

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

I have seen you future

You are correct that the timeline is screwed up in that regard. There have been several rationalizations for why this happened. Some have been mentioned already in this thread. The real reason for the dead elites is that the Halo 3 engine is designed for you to fight brutes, and Bungie was using the same engine for Halo 3 ODST.

The Elites did not rebel. They were done in by the Brutes, who no doubt followed and attacked Regret's forces under orders from Truth.

Elite Insurrection was likely beginning at the time then.

... which also would have given Regret further impetus to retreat.

This is something that I realize but then how did all of the brutes get there without us seeing it in Halo 2 since we were right under the Prophet of Regrets ship before he decided to retreat. and to the statement that the elites didn't rebel in Halo 2 it they did after the brutes started killing the elites which would be stupid for them not to rebel.

Regret could really be considered the leader of a rogue faction in the Covenant. He was killed and his men dishonoured. While the arrival of Brutes is an obvious retcon (or at least something H2's rushed earth plot didn't get to the first time), it is far from out of left field.

Halo is one of the most important part of my life.

You are wrong, the brute forces were there to erradicate to the elites on earth once its taken. Then on Halo the Phrophets give the order to ALL brutes.
