So how long do you think the Covenant, UNSC and the Flood could hold out against the Thing especially if its infiltrated their societies?

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.” – Psalms 46:1-3

Meh the thing got pwned to easily.

The Flood

"Of all the Sciences cultivated by mankind, Astronomy is acknowledged to be, and undoubtedly is, the most sublime, the most interesting, and the most useful." -John Taylor, Pittsburgh Academy

I would say the Flood, depending on the stage. Although all things being equal, it's quite possible both are quite dangerous. The Thing was isolated to Antarctica and only had a small amount of prey available to it. If it had gotten onto a populated continent...
If you had a Feral Stage infestation and The Thing, it would more or less be equal. But once the Flood hit the Co-ordinated stage, no question the Flood is much more dangerous. Although we never found out if the Thing was capable of becoming intelligent...

The Thing is the more dangerous creature. It takes only 1 cell to enter your body and turn you into one. You won't even know it's going on.

They're very similar, but the Thins implications are more dangerous.

The Flood is Thing Jr.

Um, Blair built a -blam!- ship out of helicopter, tractor, and boiler parts. I'd call that intelligent.

It has all the knowledge of its former victims, and is capable of staying hidden and acting just like them. Also, the thing can change into whatever creature it's sampled in the past at will. The same can not be said for the Flood.

Yes it could. The flood is essentially the thing except it has to take time to transform you and it has these bigass sacks it needs to put in people in order to infect them.

All the Thing needs to do is touch you. That -blam!-'s crazy.

It only takes one flood spore to wipe out a species according to R'tas Vadumee.

I'm not really an Apple person (Bananas forever) but damn, that's kinda sad.

The flood has an Omniscient overlord called the gravemind, has higher scare factor (Would you be more scared being tapped on the back or being overwhelmed by twisted distortions of the people you knew?) and it's numerous forms are more useful than the biota of Earth can be.

The Flood.

incorrect.

The Flood only need to touch you to infect you, but to become apart of the Biomass you need to get properly "infected."

Or you can breath the air.

That and the Flood has an infinite rate of Pure Forms and interstellar//galactic capabilitites.

I'm not sure what you're looking for.

Depends if the species can react correctly. Of course it would if it's a species that's un-advanced.

True, but in that respect the flood seems deadlier.

Ahem, what's a "Thing"? Are you talking about the one from Fantastic Four? :P

  • 01.08.2011 1:26 PM PDT

I am a monument to all your sins

what exactly does the thing do?

edit: I looked it up on wikipedia, and from the limited synapsis, it appears to me that it doesnt infect people, it only kills them and turns into them. If this is the case than there can only be one thing at a time, unless a bunch invade. I didnt see the movie and the plot synapsis was rather vague, so am I right about this? also, couldnt the flood just infect the thing?
