Subject: Why Halo's tech IS more advanced than current days.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

That's a nice try, but it's still basically today's tech.

nice thread

I'd always thought that future canon weapons were like that compared to today's tech. Great job.

A shotgun with 100m's of range!? I find that hard to believe, even in the future.

There are certain ammo types that have that kind of range for a shotgun today, but not with this kind of power.

It's silly to try to compare Halo to real life. CoD I would understand but not Halo.

Then why are you in the universe fourm? Anything mentioned in the Halo canon is possible anyways, just unlikely or beyond our tech level.

Ever heard of SLUGS? With a slug round your avarage garden shotgun can be accurate up to ONE KILOMETER. Provided it´s not smoothebore, that is... Granted, you trade in a small amount of stopping power, but I´d rather be shot at 50m by 00Buck while wearing a vest than by an 8 gauge slug.

Meh. It works for the Sci-Fi setting of the game, and to pierce covie shields, it has to be packing something that modern weapons don't.

The assault rifle range isn't fair, 500 meters for the M4 is assuming with some kind of scope, while the MA5's 300 meters was by colonial militia without a scope.

The sniper comparison won't even be close, the halo sniper only has the disadvantage of magazine size. And the pistol...

Those range stats are from official sources of the max effective range of the weapon, so it is fair.

I don't plan to do the sniper, nor the pistol.

Having read Contact Harvest, I know where those stats came from, and why they are unfair.

I've read it, but the stats bungie gave on their article for the AR overrides contact harvest canonically. Bungie/games > Books/other media > advertisments/viral campaigns.

Next, let's look at the ammunition: 7.62x51mm rounds.

Now then, I have no clue what that means, but I know the M4 fires a 5.56x45mm round, and this image shows the m4 round on the left, and the MA5 round on the right. Yes, it uses real ammo.
Just to clarify, the first number (5.56 or 7.62) indicates the diameter of the base of the bullet, whereas the second number indicates the length.

This makes the 5.56x45mm round 5.56mm wide and 45mm long.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, hey:Posted by: JABBERWOCK xeno
If anyone wants to tell me what the number mean, I could make a comparsion.
The M16 fires the 5.56x45mm round, and the BR, the 9.5x40mm round.

This means the BR is nearly half an inch wide and 40mm long (just shy of what, a quarter of an inch?).

The NATO round is longer, but the BR round is wider. Much wider.

Which would you say has more stopping power?

1. Could you provide a link to this?

2. The battle rifle's is so much larger that it is bound to have more stopping power. It is like comparing the 5.56x45 to the 7.62x39.

Yeah, the wider round would have a greater stopping power.

I highly doubt a slug would fly 1000 metres without falling to the ground, let alone be accurate at 1000 metres. You'd need a rifle for that range.

That's preposterous.

Its 100m, and yes shotgun slugs are fairly accurate over longer ranges than you would think.

Even if it's not, I could still equip the m90 with slugs of a greater size and get the same range with higher power, due to its aforementioned recoil dampening.

The BR comparison is about done, But I need suggestions of what to do next.

Message me if you want, I will try to get back as soon as possible.

See you on the forums and in the games.

Very good analysis. Also I think people overlook the fact that all of these gins are wirelessly linked to the users armor. Ammo, range, and sights are displayed. That in itself is amazing. Also another possible addition along with the armor linking toi the weapons, when in space using a T-Pack, or a space jetpack, the T-Pack compensates for the weapons firing in space so that the recoil does not send the shooter off course. That is pretty amazing tech.
