Shortly before the end, we have a very different chronological pov. it came up a couple times before in the book but most clearly after loads of exposition we have the beginning of chapter 38:
"I no longer have access to the record maintained by that ancilla. She faded long long ago..."
"And thus my memories were separated into two compartments, one of which has declined with time and circumstance..."
So look, step back and look at the construction of the book. It is the first Halo book told in first person. And furthermore it seems to be a recount. As in a story being told to an audience at some specific time. A story being told for the record, if you will. There were hints to that effect early in the book, but this VERY deliberate passage to open the epilogue of the book to me brings up a major question:
Just who is this didact (v2) and when is he telling this story? And to whom?
- is it someone on one of the sheild worlds, telling the story to halsey and the gang?
- is it another character we already knew?
- did didact 2 also go into long term cryptum stasis after he left the ark, created offensive bias, went to secure his shielf worlds (clearly what book 2 is gonna be about), activated the rings and beat back the flood?
what yall think? privet caboose, whatup!?
