“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

The Black Chapter!

Contact Harvest?
sounds like a venereal disease

Good book, I also liked the background info on some of the Covenant species.

Johnson WAS good with the ladies!

"Oh I know what the ladies like..."

--Sergeant A.J. Johnson.

May he rest in peace. *sniff*

OT: I like how it gave a smaller story then the other ones. While I enjoy the others as well, this was a good refreshment at the time, a good break from the epicness that is Eric Nylund's space opra stories.

BLAM!

I JUST finished this book last night (and read it over a period of 3 days). I started with Contact Harvest because I wanted to read the books in chronological order.

In that regard, I'd say it was a great introduction to the Halo Universe. It explained the humans' AIs' capabilities well, gave both sides perceptions of encountering hostile aliens, and held my attention throughout the novel.

I enjoyed learning more about Avery and figuring out what makes the man - his cigar, Mustache, and machismo.

My fav (and probably everyone elses) was the action sequences. I also enjoyed feeling "in the loop" with the author's use of terminology - "Unggoy," "Kig-yar," etc. (also the service weapons' names)

I enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty cool how they showed first contact and the reason of why we were at war with the Covenant.

I enjoyed it, it was well written. I wanted to read more interplay between Sif and Mack, because it's fun being inside the AI's heads, but the Covenant side of the story turned out to be fairly interesting. The rise to power for the Covy leaders was nicely done, especially the bit with the Oracle. I wonder if Joe Staten will continue to contribute to Halo written universe, or if he's moving on to Bungie's next IP totally.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

My second favourite Halo novel (Ghosts of Onyx taking first place). I loved the character development between Sif & Mack and Lighter Than Some & Dadab, there were some rather touching scenes in it.

I didn't care for the whole Jilan/Johnson romance thing though, it seemed a bit corny to me but the rest of the book was excellent.

I'm a lead farmer, mother lover!

If you want to read Chronologically, you should have read Halo: Crpytum first, hahaha. However I did enjoy Contact Harvest as well, although I found the ending scene with Jilan a little unnecessary. I'm not gonna hate on the book for that one indiscretion but otherwise I just enjoyed the overall flow.

Funny guy!!! XD I just bought the two boxed sets on Amazon.com > Cryptum can wait lol

Me too. I'm not one to sympathize with the enemy, but Staten knew how to play on our emotions and pull us into caring about these two covy characters (Dadab & Lighter, Than, Some).

I am a monument to all your sins

It was ok, not my favorite, but probibly the best one not written by Nylund, besides Cryptum

See you on the battlefield.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

For reference, I've read TFoR, Flood, First Strike, Cole Protocol, and Ghosts of Onyx.

I didn't like Contact Harvest. I didn't like The Flood much either, but reading The Flood felt necessary since it tied TFoR and First Strike together. Contact Harvest, on the other hand, didn't seem to hold any necessary information on building the story. It felt like a Prequel made just for $***'s and giggles, rather than something that really needed to be made (I use the term 'needed' loosely here).

I read Contact Harvest up to the Chapter where one of the Brutes shot one of the Human ambassadors and a firefight broke out. At that point, I had learned all I wanted from that book. That was how the war started. The rest of it, I'd consider to be nothing more than entertaining filler for anybody who liked both reading and Halo. I don't like reading, but I like Halo enough to push myself through a book 350something page book.

As far as I'm concerned, the Harvest portion of Halo Wars is better than Contact Harvest, but I'm not really justified in saying that because I haven't read the rest of the book. Too lazy to justify my own opinion, I guess.

Not bad for a first book.

Johnson's love scene never happened. People say it did near the end of the book. This is false.

Is at the end before the AI final part

I thought it was well written and gave the human side of the story, and not even from a hardend soldier perspective either, the local milita mainly.

But my favorite parts were the scene's between Mack and Sif, and i absolutely loved the ending diologue with Mack and how he was burying the strands of the elevator.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I have it and I have attempted to read it many times. I keep getting sidetracked or disinterested, though. Which is unusual because I read almost all the Halo books.
