Something smells fishy...
Posted by: RegularTristan
Here's the complete scenario, every detail added.
LONG STORY:
I got Halo 2 PC today, put it in my Windows 7 Laptop with more than the required operating requirements. I installed the map editor first, then clicked "Play Halo 2 PC", not the Customize Install option. It went through, telling me to enter my product code, I refused. The installation completed, then an error message popped up, saying: "games for windows live has failed to initialize. this may be because of another windows live program running on this machine at the same time (such as Halo 2 dedicated server). reinstalling the software may solve the problem." I uninstalled the main Halo 2 PC file, not the document or preferences. I installed it again, entered the product key this time, then it came up with a message that said if I wanted to help improve windows live, I refused, also clicking to not show message again. This time, it recognized a problem with windows live and downloaded windows live marketplace. This seemed to work this time, but the installation stopped, and the error message came agian. I did all this a second time, restarting my computer several times, and Halo 2 PC still doesn't work.
SHORT STORY:
I Installed Halo 2 PC 3 times and it doesn't come up!
Has anyone had a similar problem and how do you solve it?
I highly suggest you select the customized Install option. Then select full install only, do not start.
