Hold your ground, hold your ground! Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!

First of all, let me assure youthat I know who Mendicant Bias is. He's a Forerunner AI who eventually betrayed the forerunners and fought with Gravemind. But I had always questioned the name of Mendicant Bias: what exactly does it mean?

Mendicant, if you do not know, is defined as a poor person, or a beggar. Bias basically means to favor something over something else, or to have somewhat of a stereotype against something. So how is this name logical?

Discuss.

The Forerunners viewed the Flood as beggars asking for their bodies as food? And the AI favored them?

Bias I think denotes the specialism of the AI, which in the case of the war machine Offensive Bias is quite obvious.

In the case of Mendicant, it doesn't make much sense except in the case of how he was housed on High charity

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

In Cryptum Didact states that Mendicant, like a rampant A.I., was a "begger after knowledge". In seems the A.I.'s insatiable desire for knowledge (what may seem like begging) had a hand in his downfall.

That explains mendicant, but what about bias?

question?

maybe it means the AI is inclined, or biased towards gathering knowledge.

I think you guys are looking at this wrong, the name Guilty Spark is not related to his personality or anything really.

I love the irony of how when he finely tried to do somthing good all he did was -blam!- -blam!- up even worse than it already was.
