So I opened Waypoint and watched the most recent episode of This Spartan Life - the interview guests were Frank O'Connor and bs angel.

The interviews were mostly fluff - basically, both of them talked about how awesome it was to work for 343 - but then... (emphasis mine)

TSL: Frank, what can you tell us about the future of Halo at 343 Industries?

Frank O'Connor: Well, there's, I mean, right now we're really just concentrating on the sustain for Halo: Reach. A lot of people are planning on playing Halo: Reach for a significant amount of time, and we, in cooperation with Bungie, are planning on supporting that for a significant amount of time. So nobody has to worry about anything like us, you know, churning out Reach sequels every year; nobody has to worry about Reach servers going away. That's really our job; that's what we've been working on, and that's what we're going to be working on. And obviously, the books, the comics...

You look unto me now through the profile screen found at http://www.bungie.net/Account/Profile.aspx. Here we are, mutually faceless, both ones in the Seventh.

That's why Frankie is in charge.

Yeah. I was skeptical about what he'd do for the franchise after I heard that he said that they'd have to be "the world's biggest -blam!-s" to not follow up on H3's Legendary ending.

Then I found out that immediately afterwards, he said "I didn't say we weren't the world's biggest -blam!-s".

I still hope they come out with a game sometime next year, though...

It didn't say no Halo games every year, it said "no Reach sequels".

Distinctions are important.

I think (hope) that's the case. I'm perfectly fine with a single-player thing like ODST, or something in a different genre like Halo Wars. It's just that I don't want the next big multiplayer Halo game to come out while there's still buttloads of potential left in Reach.

Basically, I don't want the Halo franchise to become the next CoD or Guitar Hero.

We may be seeing a Halo game every year, it just won't be like Halo 3 ODST that is all we know.

While they will not be churning games out every year, I think they should admit that they are building a game, after all they are just hiring just about every video game engineer in the gaming society.

Frankie wasn't a Bungie employee during Halo CE> He came on board Bungie half way through Halo 2, and even then he was a PR/Community guy. Only in Halo 3 did he contribute to the series.
