Subject: Where did the flood really come from

My Construction contains the Instruction for my Self-Destruction through the World's Corruption

Hmmm, I like some of the ideas that were thrown out in this thread a long time ago, but that's just me.

My previous name was Armagaiden.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Read Halo: Cryptum. It explains it.

Haven't read Cryptum so I think the Flood is Extragalactic. It's a Parasite that feeds off of intelligence and Biomass

i havent read the cryptum yet but ive read almost everything in halopedia and so such sites
firstly i think the Precursors did not die out
the forerunners faught them when they where at tier 0 so its most likely some of them departed and really there are thousands of galaxys they might just spread out to other galaxys but no i dont belive that flood was made by them because the forerunners destroyed most of theirs lifes they had very little left when they would depart (even tho i dont get it why did the foreruners fight their creators) if you read wiki the prisoner Precursor escaped when the medicant biases halo activated and he didnt get any efect exept for their buildings which got destroyed saying that their buildings where biologicly made (living buildings ,lol) so the Precursors take no effect on the halos activation and they could live even when it is activated

secondly i also think the forerunners are still alive because they hit tier 0 and they couldve done the same thing i think the Precursors did and just killing a whole super advanced race just some honer ? pff

thirdly the flood was not made by anyone in our galaxy because it came to our galaxy on old ships you could even say historical ships and the Precursor could not do it because they would have to rebuild on another empty galaxy it would take them thousands of years no no im wrong millions of years which prooves that the Precursors did not make the flood and as i said there are millions of galaxys there mightve been another creatures that are much far from us and much advanced created it with their new tech and it all went out of controll and maybe even it went out of controll many billions years ago and since then the flood has been destroying other species in other galaxy untill it reached us but we where ready for it (not talking about the old war) we where ready because we met before 110,000 years ago when we found them on old ships and even we had no memories about everything that happend we still knew that there is a paresite that would once fight us (lol no i feel idk what im talking about)
so saying that they are made outside the galaxy
a few things i dont understand and the thing that bothers me most is why did the foreruners tried to destroy the Precursors
and by the way even in halo 3 the flood did not get destroyed and IM SURE there would be halo 4 (idk why im posting this on bungie)because flood not destroyed master chief on legendary planet which may contain flood or forerunners or even Precursors

This is what Greg Bear says:

The Flood, as of volume one, seems to have originated in the Greater Magellanic cloud, just outside our galaxy, but it's true origin is not yet known...

More about the Flood is definitely in the works. Thanks, Lee!

No you guys in cruptium their history is explained I just want an answer from some 1 who actually read the book.

*******SPOILER ALERT FOR HALO CRYPTUM*******
Not a major plotline spoiler, but just some information spoilers.

I have. sit down for this one.

Ok. SO before the forerunners there was an ancient civilization that existed almost a Millenia ago, clled the Precursors.
Then like the forerunners they suddenly vanished. The Forerunners Idolize them as theyve achived Tier 0 technology level.

About 150000 years before Halo There also existed the Human civilization. One day, out on the farthest reachs of the galaxy a group of ships was spotted. Ancient, old and decrepid. With no Life sings on board.
All that was on board where millions of glass jars containing this fine powdery substince. Human scientists and the like examined and studdied this powder but found nothing wrong with it. They did however notice that by spreading the powder on this species they kept as pets (think like a dog), that the "dogs" became much more docile and intellegant. It became a hit on the black market.
Many years later, the dogs who had had the powder spread on them began exibiting signs of a growth on their back. They started to knaw and chew off their own fur. others even eating the ones with growths. After a period of time they began to mutate. The humans then got rid of all the "infected" "dogs". But it was to late. The infection had spread to humans. Cuseing mutations and loss of skin. Touching, being coughed on, even handleing any dead or shed flesh from an infected human or animal would cause you to be infected also.
Thus began the Flood.

There is more but ill spare you the details.
As for where the flood came from.... I wont spoil that for you.
If u really want to know just go to Halopedian.com

That's what I read on Halopedia, but you have so many spelling errors it hurts.

║╚╝╠╝╚╣║║║║╚═╣║║╚╝║╚╝║║║
╚══╩══╩╝╚╝╚══╩╝╚══╩══╝╚╝

As is expressly stated, the Flood is a result of the interaction between a mysterious powder and the former human pets known as Pheru. The infection spread from them, to Humans, and to San 'Shyuum. The powder was discovered, by Humans, among the wreckage of automated ships that seemed to have come from one of the Magellanic Clouds.

Despite what some might tell you, the idea that the Flood was created by the Precursors to get revenge on the Forerunners is nothing more than an audience theory, and has no substantial proof.

They where a parasite that traveled through space that killed everything. so there home is not known of.

But if you played Halo Wars i think the first level with the flood i think that is there home planet

I don't think so. The planet you're referring to is Jirilhanae, the brute home planet.

Please tell me you're just pulling my leg... Nobody can say something as ridiculous as that and mean it.

Nope, it was an infected Forerunner shield world.

The way I see it there are 3 possibilities*

1. The truely are from another galaxy

2. The Precursors made them to kill the foreruners

3. Or A the humans made them for their pets.

so which one is it, I haven't read the book but does anyone know the definitive answer?!

1. Is still very likely given the information from Cryptum, the things that originated the Flood were found on derelict ships that drifted into Human space.

2. I don't think this idea is likely at all. We don't know what the Precursors were really like, but I would assume the idea of the Mantle was either taken from them or based on an idea of their's. And the Flood are pretty much the Anti-Mantle, the Mantle is about defending and preserving life, all the Flood do is destroy and devour, no life there.

3. Well the Humans kinda did make the Flood XD They found the canisters of unknown dust, and after finding it harmless, and that it made a creature they used as pets more docile, they started using it on the animals, and then things eventually got out of hand the Flood was born.

It's entirely possible it's a mix of all three options.

Well since the flood powder (or maybe its spores) came from a outer galactic ship outside our galaxy in filtered glass canisters that make sure the flood spores or powder would not get out of it. it means that there was already flood out break somewhere and the living things of that galaxy just whiped the flood out just as interstellar human alliance did some 200k years ago.but i really think the flood is undefeatable because it might be millions of years and it might exist on thousands of different galaxys that they destroyed saying that even if we wipe the flood of our galaxy it would still come back later or sooner and the only way to defeat it is to know every single freaking galaxy and search it for flood and eliminate it which is impossible because as seen in halo legends after thousands of years of activation of halos a flood pod survived in a forerunner helmet and even if we could completly check every corner of this galaxy we could never search every each galaxy for flood it would take unfinishable time and we would need such tech and so many people to actually survive that it would be extremely big which prooves that its inpossible.
however as halopedia said the flood claims to make one race and infect everything for their own good as there would be no wars ..no sickeness ....no poverty and it would keep destroying species endlessly for ever and ever and still unstoppable ...ofcourse if there are species that are imune to flood then we would still have a chance to defeat it ....but even if we defeat it from every galaxy possible what chance do we have that we wont encounter the same or simmillar powder in the future ? maybe even a stronger powder ...eventually we would be defeated unless ofcourse every god damn specie in the galaxy unite to destroy the flood which would be a war with losses beyond imagning
and still i want halo and everything it has to happen i also want to be mc in it and live for the next 543 years untill it would be 2552 so i could destroy halo and i also wish foreruners would be alive.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

I like the theory that the Precursor created them as a sentient intelligence that got out of control.

Every dead body would be dumped to The Flood, their knowledge would be combined into a mass grave, the Grave Mind. This blobs purpose was to know everything. Every. Single. Thing. That could be known. But will The Flood was sentient and intelligent, Gravemind was still an AI. And like other AI, he went rampant.

Evolving into metastability Gravemind realized The Flood is alive and he wanted more knowledge. So he exterminated the Precursor, and so forth.

Snakie's theory was great. Unfortunately, Cryptum has proven it incorrect.

"Wort wort wort!"

First off, I havent read Cryptum. All things that I have read points to Extra-galactic, and on that theory, I have concluded that there IS a great journey, that the precursors took to the Flood galaxy where they found the flood, killed and exported them, and went their merry way as "gods." This idea explains the lack of a second Gravemind.

The only reason we thought the Flood was extra galactic was because of the Terminals in Halo 3, in which their true origins were not revealed.

The Great Journey was the Didact going to activate the Halo Rings and "following in Their footsteps" after.

The Precursors created the Flood as their answer to the Forerunners for destroying them, of course there are many people here who will immediately start disagreeing with me on this because they cannot seem to interpret the Prisoner's speech to the Didact properly.

Or the flood are the true "Anti-Life" and the precursors just let them loose from somewhere. seeing as how the first ships were stated to have came from the smaller nearby galaxy's near the milky way.
