Subject: Halo 2 GFWL Disc NOT READING!

Ok, so I had an issue where my CD/DVD rom drive was detected at all, then I looked up an issue for deleting some file in some coding and then it worked fine, I even tested it with an old PC game I got, read, installed and everything fine.

BUT then, I got to the whole reason I fixed it, to play Halo 2. I popped it in and it didn't read at all! I put it in both rom drives on my PC and it didn't read AT ALL! It doesn't even pop up in My computer it just has "CD-RW (D:)" "CD DRIVE (E:)", I tried both drives too. I'm running Windows 7.

Help?!

Let there be CHAOS!

Well, Halo 2 is a DVD and your computer apparently thinks you've only got CD drives. If they are indeed DVD drives, I would turn the computer off, open it up, and reconnect all the cables to the disc drives and see if that helps. If it's a laptop, well, you might be out of luck. CD/DVD drives on laptops are usually -blam!-.

Well, D: is "Memorex 48MAXX 1248AJ ATA Device"
E: is "SONY CD-ROM CDU76E-Q ATA Device".

Obviously the Sony one is a CD drive..

EDIT: I can't believe it was such an obvious problem! Just put in a DVD movie and that won't read so I guess it's set in stone. Thanks man.

A few quick Google searches seem to indicate the Memorex drive is a CD drive as well...

EDIT: No problem.
Also, I would go to Newegg.com for a DVD drive. You can find them for about $20.

Is there a model type or name you would recommend? Or would pretty much any DVD rom drive work?

Personally, I bought this one a few months ago and it has worked great. Keep in mind it is a SATA though, so make sure your motherboard supports it. If you can only use IDE, then I'm not sure what to recommend, but I'm sure most of those drives on Newegg are fine. Just make sure to check the reviews on them.

I BELIEVE it is a ASUS P5GC-MX/I333 MOTHERBOARD

Looks like that motherboard does support SATA then.
