"Shall we let the Flood consume our holy city? Turn High Charity into another of their wretched hives? No enemy has ever withstood our might. The Flood, too, shall fail."

-Prophet of Truth.

Pretty straight forward question. Does it have any battles, skirmishes, etc? I know it has a lot of valuable canon information, but any action?

One rather large epic fleet engagement, but that's it.

what is cryptum. I googled it real quick and it just appears to be a new book that I have never heard of, which is rare seeing as I have read and love all the books. Can someone tell me what it's about?

Just came out the 4th this month. It's the first of a new trilogy set in the time of the Forerunner-Flood war.

I finished it about a week ago, it was pretty good and has a fair amount of action. While it filled my head with loads of new interesting information the story telling in my opinion just wasn't up to par with Eric Nylunds books. Still worth a read.

I think it is just as good as Nylunds writing, but it doesn't feel like Halo. I really feels like some new series that reminds you of something in the back of your mind.

Oddly, this is familiar to you, as if it were from an old dream, but you can't exactly remember.

I know that's the tag line from the Bungie Universe forum, but where is that quote from? Is that when John is using the covie tech in the books??

It's a quote from Marathon

I believe it predates Halo, though I'm not 100% sure really.

Yes, someone put my thoughts into words. I just finished reading Cryptum a few hours ago and though it was an "allright" book, I always felt as if it lacked something. It "just wasn't up to par with Eric Nylund's books." The characters were just plain crap, in my opinion, there's too much jargon, and many things are unexplained.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

I prefer the nice quiet parts, it helps make the characters... real. Unlike the previous books, which were just Kill this then save the day, then have a sequel of killing everything else. I prefer characters I can relate to, ones I can understand.

Some times it is a little hard to read.
I am at page 15 and it says,
"where my peoples were born."

In my opinion, thats not right.
I don't know whether it is ment to be like that but it kind of throws your for a second and i loose my concentration, like when your phone rings while your watching a movie, ya know.

Surely that's the worst place for it to "pick up"? I don't feel like reading an entire book just for the ending to get good and then be done with it.

Having said that, the last Halo book I bought was Contact Harvest, and on Thursday I shall be buying all of the new ones up to Cryptum. Aw hells yeah.

No, it does not have the slightest bit of REAL Halo action. Although there is a shocker at the end.

That's kind of the point. It's about the Forerunner, a concept that hasn't really been explored for any long period of time.
